OS 1.60 on GS Edge 540.......Problems......
I am having a problem with my OS 160- I can dial it in and run it with the plane sitting on the ground and nose straight up and the throttle transition is smoothe- both ways- then when I take off it loads up and goes out- This engine is on a Edge 540 Profile- I've checked the fuel lines and there are no cuts or anything like that- plus i would think that if it were a leak that it would lean out not load up- the tank seemed to be vibrating quite a bit and the fuel was foaming up a lot- and I am wondering if it wasn't sucking air from inside the tank.......I put foam between the fuse and tank- anyway, any hep that you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated- I'm dying to get this thing in the air!

I and a friend had similar problems, and if you do a search, you'll find that this is common. A cline regulator or Iron Bay pump seem to very popular solutions, and you may want to go that route, but I tried a few things suggested here before hand and am now getting reliable runs. Switch to an OS F (four stroke) plug. Start it and let it warm up, run her up to clear it out, then use a tach and set the bottom end so that it will idle at 1800 RPM for a full minute and not load up nor lean out. Go to WOT and set the top end at 2-300 RPM rich. Go back and recheck the bottom end, then give her a go. Use fuel with some castor in it. I'm running wildcat 15% premium and have about 3 gallons through it, with no dead sticks and no need to touch the needles for the last gallon and a half. My buddy was running all synth, and had problems. Switched to castor/synth blend and they went away. Stay away from any extending hovering for the first few gallons, overheating is a big cause of the flame outs and it takes a few to break them in. I also found that although it sounds like it's dying rich in the air, it's actually too lean. Set your throttle at about a third, or to where it starts to sputter, and pinch the line to see what happens. Hope it helps. Good luck!

Mike-
I've heard that too..... I don't think that it was over heating as the first flight only lasted about 15-30 seconds- it acted like it was bogging down- I would run the throttle up and down but it just wouldn't clear out and then it would flame out- the clunk was all over the place in the tank when I was running it on the ground so I think that I will definetly go back and weight it really well to see if that might help the problem- I may also try another plug as my friend said that he had the exact same thing happening to him and he changd the plug and it ran great- I have also switched back to a synth. to castor blend- I hope this helps- I can tell that this plane is going to be a blast to fly once I get past this issue- Thanks for the feedback-

Hmmm. Sounds like it was lean if it ran up and then choked for fuel. Also make sure the tank is padded with foam to cut down the vibration. That really does make a difference. I would also agree on the plug question. Might want to shoot Brian Cooper an email at Cooper fuels, he REALLY knows his stuff with engines, plugs, and fuels.

I had the same problem. I put a cline regulator on it and solved the problem. also spray some armorall into you fuel to stop it from foaming up. a couple of squirts per gallon
