Default Zenoah 26 or OS 160

I have a GSP/CMpro 72" extra already fitted with an OS 160 and require lots of weight up forward for C of G i am thinking of doing away with the lead and putting in the Zenoah 26, I have never flown gas and don't know if it will be comparable?

Thanks for any input you may have.

This sounds like the situation where you would be as well off to try it.

The 26 swings a greater diameter prop, do you have the ground clearance?

Enjoy,

Jim

I just seen a Zenoah G-26 fly a Great Planes ARF 72" Gene Saucy Extra 300. It had great power, but not unlimited. If flew the heck out of the airplane, even at 14lbs.! I was very impressed! It was turning a 16X8 prop at about 9000 RPMs or over.

If you need the ground clearance a 16-8 is OK, a 16-10 would be better, but a 17-8 or 18-6 will turn the same rpm and have more thrust....

I have a Sig extra 300xs 12.25 lbs and I put a Zenoah 26g electronic ign. Has anyone tried that combo and what was your luck? I hear it produces 17lbs of thrust. Any tips on set up?

If the model would fly satisfactorily with a strong glow two-stroke .90, you'll be happy with the G26's power output.

Seriously, gas engines produce nowhere near the same power as equal displacement two-stroke glow engines.

The OS 160 is often used as a sub in 40cc sized planes. The G-26 is going to be a bit shy of that power.

The G26 is 1.55 ci. so it will produce less power than the OS 160. A G38 is an option but the stock one is pretty heavy.
You can find them on a well known auction site for a reasonable price all the time. Then send to Ralph at RC Ignitions or get the CH convertion kit. Getting rid of the flywheel and the magneto will do wonders.
It will be lighter and you will have enough power to make that plane do what ever you want. It has a rear exhaust and it will last for years.

I looked at the Extra and it is a beautiful plane.
