Default I wish I left it standard.

Hi all.

I've been away from this hobby for a few months (busy with other things) and have got back to fiddling with my dragonfly.

I have used lots of mods which made flying even more fun. First I changed to the like90 blade setup with j250 motor but with the 10 tooth pinion flight time was severly reduced (I still use the 7cell nihm packs), still looking for an 11 tooth replacement. I then purchased a g10 frame and dual tail motor setup. Since fitting these my heli will no longer take off, and just spins around on the floor. I think it may now be too heavy, there also seems to be a lot of friction on the dual tail setup!?

I am wishing I left my bird standard at least i could fly her then. Trouble is I gave my stardard blades away

Can anyone make some suggestions to help me get her airbourne again?

Crash

A stupid suggestion perhaps, but did you check polarity?
Some axle lube might get it going again aswell.
Ive heard you should put a sheet of paper between the pinion and gears when you mount the motor. That way there will be a nice space between the teeth. Dont know if that goes for prockets as small as the dragons though.

Yes polarity is correct

Yes I set the main wheel using a thin peice of paper but the tail pinions are very small for this. they just dont seem to mesh too well.

I was thinking perhaps with the g10 frame AND the dual tail mount that the heli is now too heavy for the cells to power. I was thinking maybe I should buy LiPo cells to save weight?

BTW I see you have a pico jet as your pic, I also have a picojet...they are lots of fun

Ive been looking around for lipo aswell, but dont you need a different set of controllers to cope with lipo?

Also, what about voltage?
I think a stock one would fly on 7.2v because it shedded around 40gr. on the powersource, and the tailmotor would be a little happier aswell, but how will it work on a topheavy dragon that needs every bit of power it can scrounge?

BTW: About the pico: I dont like the stall characteristics, but damn do they make one hell of a noice. [&:]

Buy a 3 cell pack to get more power to lift.

Hi Vince, I am using the standard esc/mixer, will the 3 cell LiPo be too much for this?

Im sure of that. Besides, I think the tail would be barfing up charred brushes in notime.

So to upgrade to 3 cells LiPo's I would also need Higher spec escs, meaning I would also need a new gyro??

If you got the PHA-01 3-in-1 board, yes you do. If youre lucky to get all parts loose, you only need a new ESC for tail and main. Also I think, if you dont limit the voltage, youll have to buy a new tail motor every 5 packs or so, because that motor is allready abused enough as it is (6v motor @ 8.4v).

Perhaps cutting holes in the chassis might help. Ive seen dragon chassis that where just solid slabs of plastic. In any way, you need to gain some power or shedd some weight.
Maybe, if youre skilled enough, you could try and build a replica out of carbon, and make some lighter stiff blades.

I have the G10 frame, and like 90blades and the johnson 250 motor. I also have two motors on the tail. I have a sperate esc/mixer and a pg03 gyro?

So will they handle 3 lipos?

I dont think the motors will take the abuse of 11.1v anyway, let alone the ESC.
So I think youll be needing to find another solution to this.

Im not sure on this though, but didnt you accedently put the motors in parralel? Or doesnt this matter? (Professional electro people, please confirm. )

The motors come pre-wired parallel from like 90, i think running them together takes a bit of strain off them.

Try putting on a direct drive high autority tail motor and blade. Theire really powerfull, and VERY light due to only 1 motor, and no gear and shaft stuff.

Having that huge lump of 2 motors on your tale is ugly anyway.

Maybe it ll even be light enough to lift off with a 2cell lipo, giving you at least 2 times asmuch airtime, as a 1400mAh lipo is still 40 grams lighter then a 700mAh NiHm.

Then dont.
Just get rid of the top heavy tail lump.
