Default snapped antenna is my reciver broken?

i have an electron 6 reciver and the antenna wrapped around the rotor head on my heli and snapped the wire-
it didnt pull it out of the reciver but it snapped it about 2 inches away from it.

i twisted the ends back together and put some electrical tape around it, is this sufficent or should i solder the big bit of the wire to the circuit board?

The best way to go is soldering an entire new wire on it, same length same gauge. Im not sure twisting it back on will cause trouble, but better safe then sorry. Think what happens if the twisted part gets shaken loose after a while, just when youre doing a high heading pass. [&:] Im sure having a 3" antenna would cause trouble.

yeah it should be, just do a full range check antenna collapsed

The key is to make the antenna the same length, or as close to it as you can, so I would solder it back together & put some heat shrink around it... then do a range check to make sure... the antennas are the length they are, so they match the mHz wavelength and can recieve the signal at the greatest distance... changing the length changes the best wavelength it can recieve, and can shorten the max distance you have control. At least, this is wat I understood from my local hobby shop guy when my airplane reciever antenna broke in a crash. My range has not been affected after the above fix..

It really won't matter for you. Just solder the 2 wires back together. We all fly with the antenna safely wraped around something so that it gets out of the way of the rotor right?
The antenna is most effective if it's tuned to the wavelength of the frequency it wants to receive but if also need to be straightened.

They do not have to be in a straight line, aslong as it doesnt cross over itself, its fine. They dont wrap the antenna around a heli's skid legs so neatly, just for the looks of it.
