1/3 Pitts w/quadra 52 (18 lb.) what prop ????
I have a great planes 1/3 scale ARF Pitts special w/ a quadra 52. I am swinging a JN Zinger 20X8 prop. The plane gets off the ground ok and the speed is good but it really pigs out when I am doing any type of climbing straight up (hammer head stalls, loops, or inverted pushovers). I want to know if there are any other types of props to try (size, style ect. ) I am new at the bigger engines and it's expensive to go prop trying. Any help would be great. [email protected]

I have a Menz-S 22X8 on mine with a DA-50. This is the break-in prop that DA recommends for this engine. Mine is well past break-in with around 90 flights now. I have just hung with this prop and get very good climbing speed with authority on my Pitts.

I think your problem is more with teh weight of the plane than with the prop choice, you could always try going with a menz prop, they tend to hold their pitch better than the zingers, you could also go up in diameter, try a 22-8 depending on your rpm that is.What RPM is the engine turning with the zinger.?

Roger, that DA is twice the engine as the Quadra !! Maybe someday I will be able to put on one. I think that the DA has much more juice and can handle the prop better.
Wildman, I am going to try an Ultra 22x10 (friend gave it to me and said that their awsome) We will see. If its too much I will drop down to the 8. Let ya know !!

I may be trading some smaller planes for the same model you both own. I just am wondering if it will do some of the 3D stuff I enjoy with a DA50? I am really leaning towards either that or the engines put out by ZDZ or even 3W. YS is also a good choice, but they are back ordered. Please let me know your honest opinion. I am looking for something that will be both somewhat scale, yet do some of the hovering and other fun 3d type stuff.
Thanks,
Emmanuel

Roadrunner, the Quadra 52 should power the 1/3 Pitts just fine. How old is the engine? I have a Quadra 52B which comes with CH Synchrospark ignition and it is very lightweight. It is going on a GP Christen Eagle.
I think 22x10 is a little much for the 52cc. That is normally what a G-62 swings. I would go with a 20x10 or 22x8. The regular Zingers are really not as bad as some people make it out to be, but there are better props out there. You don't have to buy some expensive European wood, however. I have used and like the Zinger Pro series.

I had the Q52 on an ohio rc ultimate bipe about the same weight. Anyway the 20 x 10 Menz S worked best for me. The 20 x 10 Zinger just didn't pull that good. Never used one on that plane but you might try the 20 x 10 Pro Zinger
