Default First car questions.

Hi all...
i've been searching for info for about 2 days now on rcu, so i'm not doing the usual newbie posting and asking the same q as everyone else.

basicall i'm looking for what you guys recommend under the following conditions.

1) electric (no nitro for me)
2) cheapish (was thinking no more than $500 AUD, which is about $350USD for the total setup - incl radios etc)
3) moslty driven on road, but wouldn't mind a little dirt.
- don't like the buggies that much, would prefer a wrc style of car (ie impreza / evo etc)
- don't want a truck
- if it's a really good car for on road, wouldn't mind not being able to take off road. but if i can get a similar quality car that can do both i'd take that one.
4) fun! - doesn't have to be competitive, as no-one racing near my area and it's just for me as a beginner.
5) modifiable - to some extent

i tried talking to the guys at my LHS, but they always gave conflicting advice and it's obvious they realised i was a newbie and were trying to exploit it to sell me ****e.

i was thinking about:
1) mini-t, they look pretty cool
2) mini-z (although i'd probably buy one second hand with some hop-ups already installed) and i realise i couldn't take it off-road
3) tc3 if i could afford it?
4) xxx-s from losi (can get for $400AUD at another LHS but then need radio gear etc.)

any suggestions?
thanks in advance.

If you want to check into minis, check out the "mini & micro" subforms.

I own the Evader EP ST and am very pleased with it. I purchased it from e-bay for about $130.00 USD. I also bought two chargers and four battery packs from the same guy for about $70.00 USD. Also, the truck came with many spare parts and a hex wrench (which is very useful) and some Proline Gladiator tires. This was a great deal for me, being as I was a beginner. I have had the truck for over a year, and have not broke anything major. The only things I have replaced are the usual things (i.e the motor brushes, motor springs, slipper pads, pinion & spur gears, all of which you can find cheap at Tower Hobbies.) And I really put this truck through some abuse. I run in in my backyard (which has many obsticles, as well as 4 foot BMX jumps) and I am constantly running into wooden posts, wheelbarrows, and all of that. This truck can really take a beating. The stock motor is good, but I think that my is close to dying. Anyway...if you want to run on-road, you can always purchase an upgraded motor with a higher top speed (top speed with stock is like 21.4 MPH) and purchase on road tires. I believe the RTR is like $169.99 USD, which would leave you with plenty of money for upgrades (if you want them.)

Anyway...if you have any question, don't hesistate to ask.

Duratrax would be the way to go.
Easy to get parts.
If you buy new, any part you break they will replace up to a year i believe?

Can I ask you how fast it goes? I really like the look of this car.
It is actually the car I'm looking for... I guess...
