woops...watch where you drill
Decided to attach a tail guard onto the boom of my DF. Just a thin rod of CF that points down at 30deg so the tail rotor doesn't hit the ground if I land hard. Thought it would be wise to screw the support onto the boom so it wouldn't move.
Totally forgot about the wires in the boom until I saw smoke coming off the heli when I powered up. Damn screw was shorting the wires half way down the shaft. To my surprise the ESC still works fine so I must have disconnected the battery in the nick of time.
Add to the fact that the CF tail boom will most likely snap in a bad landing at the point I drilled the small hole.
What was I thinking??

RE: woops...watch where you drill
I've had similar problems with my new cf tail fin.
Can't screw it in due to the screws hitting the wires, superglue holds it until the first landing where it comes into use, and then it just comes straight off! Seems difficult to glue two pieces of cf together. Anyone have any suggestions??

Use a piece of rubber connector where you can get in any kite shop to connect the two CF together. It can help absorbing shock on hard landing.
