edge 540 To carbon or not to carbon.
Hi all I'm ordering all my bits and pieces for my edge. so far we have
DA-50
slimline pits
hardware kit
1-JR-8611 air wild servo arm and 4-hitech 5945's
Dave Brown spinner
Toms painted fiberglass LG
3-MPI charge switches and 3-1650 NiMH noBS battery's
I am thinking of going carbon for the wing and stab tubes and tail wheel assembly. Any one want to talk me out of/into this modification?
Also thinking about switching to 200lb Kevlar on the pull pull.
Any thing else I should think about?
Thanks

definitely get the new tail wheel and if every ounce counts for you do the carbon fiber on the tubes and if it were me i would get the fiberglass gear that WH sells unless you want the look of the carbon gear but also remember that the landing gear that WH sells is pre drilled for you plane

Save the money to buy more gas!
Once you fly the plane, you'll be wanting more gas to fly more often.
Why care about the little bit of weight you'd save.
Fly the plane using the setup you have listed above and if you gota spend money . . buy gas.

Get the wing tube, yopu will come to like it a lot. Forget the stab tube. It won't make enough of a difference to matter a whit. The glass gear is MUCH better than the c/f gear. This from experience with both. The tail wheel is a toss up. Personal opinion is that you will spend a lot of money for little return. Just get another standard Ohio tail wheel and run it forever.

I have the carbon wing tube and the fg landing gear for the 540. The cf wing tube is much lighter then the aluminum one. I can weigh the difference if you like. I have had cf landing gear, and in my opinion the fg landing gear that wild hare is selling with their planes is much better and lighter then the aluminum gear, just a tad bit heavier the then the cf gear, but it seams as if the fg landing gear is holding up better then the cf landing gear.
If you want to build your plane as light as possible, then the cf wing tube and fg gear are the way to go. I want to be as light as possible. Carbon tail gear is just a little lighter then the standard issue tail gear.

Thanks Guys! I have ordered the wildhair FG gear, And when my CC recovers from the sticker shock will order the CF wing tube. I fly at 5500 feet so reducing weight is a good thing!

Aggh, I wish that the FG gear had been out when I got my plane (not a chance, it was in the first shipment ). I thought I was doing good getting the lightweight alum stuff
If I ever get some money freed up from saving for my 40% I'll put the cash into the edge and get it flying even better. With my not-yet broken in DA 50, i need all the help that I can get. Fortunately I managed to convince someone to trade me another 23x8 mejlik to replace the one that broke in the crash in trade for some webspace and my unused 3W fuel filler
