The pathfinder or the P-40 B? which help
I am wondering if the brodak pathfinder is good for an intermediate flyer like me. I'll have a brodak 40 in it with 60 feet line.
Or the brodak P-40 B. Same engine and lines.
Which one would you guys recommend.
Thanks

My friend flies a Pathfinder profile, and to my untrained eye, I can't see how anything could fly better. Brodak will have them available in ARF and ARC in the not-too-distant future.

I'm about to start my second Pathfinder and have the plans for the full-fuselage version drawn by John Miller for Gordon Delaney. Terrific airplane!!! Before I flew mine, I e-mailed Gordon (the designer) and used his set-up almost to the millimeter and the plane flew very nicely. Only change we made was to take out 1/4 ounce of tip weight, to eliminate some hinging. I am using Stuka Stunt FP 40s in mine.

I don't know about the P-40 but I love my Pathfinder. Built it last year to use in my first year flying in the Advanced class at contests. With a stock OS .40LA it flies great. Took a 3rd, two 2nds, and one 1st place in Advanced stunt last year. The plane builds easy, grooves in level flight, and turns a very tight corner. Mine is set up exactly as shown on the plans, wings covered in Ultracoat, and Lustercote paint on the fuselage.

What size tank do you have on it? Short or long flite with that tank? And how thick is the fuselage at the nose? Because the nose seems much thicker.
Thanks

I use a 4 1/2 ounce uniflow tank. The flight duration depends on the needle valve setting on the engine. If the engine is set rich then i get flights of 6 to 6 1/2 minutes. With the engine set lean (but not too lean) I have gotten over runs (i.e. slightly over 8 minutes). At my nornal setting of a rich 2-cycle I typically get about 7 minutes and 15 seconds (this gives me about 14 extra laps after completing the full pattern). Your mileage will vary depending on your engine, needle valve setting, fuel, prop, etc. The Pathfinder has room to run a bigger tank than 4 1/2 ounces if required.
The nose area utilizes a "tripler". This is about 1/2 inch thick and runs from the nose back to about the leading edge of the wing. It helps reinforce and stiffen the nose area. It also allows you to fair it into the spinner for a better appearance.

I have a full bodied fuselage pathfinder. it has the stock pathfinder wing and stab and elevator. It just has a built up fuselage. It flies great. Im looking foward for the Brodak ARF Pathfinder coming soon i hope. I will get one for sure. my full bodied pathfinder has an LA 46 with a big 12x6 prop. Yes that prop works really well with it.

Back in the late '50's and '60's there were no ends to "Originals" that were either a split-off "Nobler" or "Detroiter".
I believe it was in '59 when I was at a CL meet in Orangeburg, SC and saw Dave Hemstraught flying his PT-19. I remarked that I thought that was an excellent modification of the Nobler. I thought I had dropped the A-Bomb.

I will see if I can locate someone with an ARF Pathfinder. I will call that number. We want to get some of the others too. I already have a Bi-Slob flying from a kit, my dad wants one so we can fly at the same time in the circle.
Yes my full bodies pathfinder does look like a chief, it just has the same wing and tail as a pathfinder with a box fuse.

My vote is for the Pathfinder, but can not make a real comparison as I haven't even seen a P-40. However, I have yet to fly anything like the Pathfinder. It is amazing!!!

As the the availability of the ARF Pathfinder, I checked with Henry Werner at Virginia Hobbysport and he said they're in quality control right now, and it should be available in February.
