Default Paddles? What do they do?

OK freak-a-zoids, what purpose do the paddles on the main rotor head serve? I just can't see any science to them. Thanks. How about setting the pitch of them? Should the be flat, or pitched some amount as compared to.....?

They provide stability as well as easing the servo loads. They are set flat.

think of them as power assist for the rotor head.
