Getting back to R/C, NEED ADVICE!
Hey Everyone...I'm getting my 9yr old into the great world of R/C, roughly 20 yrs or so since I started. Problem is, I've been out of the hobby for quite some time. Anywho, what do y'all think of this beginner's setup? It'll be mostly for bashing right away, but we do have tracks near us so I'd like him to at least sniff bumpers once he gets out there....
Duratrax Evader ST RTR w/ Sprint ESC
Tower Hobbies 2TXP (has dual-rate steering...for this reason I'm picking over the Futaba 2PH MS)
Dynamite Vision Peak 2
1 Trinity 1500 or Duratrax 1500/1900 generic 6c Nicd pack (sub $20)
1 Epic 3000 Nimh Sport Pak (cheapie sub $20 6c pack)
I know for $35 or so I can get a decent 6 cell GP 3300 pack (Battlepack, Pro-Match), but I figure for a kid starting out he doesn't need ultimate voltage etc. I guess I'd like to know how these cheap Epic or Duratrax packs work for everyday yard bashing. PLEASE feel free to chime in w/ your opinions. As you can see, I'm going bang-for-the-buck here...let me know if there's anything 'sketchy' w/ this lineup! Thanks a ton everyone-------

for $40 or so you can get a pair of 3000mAh NiMH packs from Peak Racing or Orion.
and the evader is RTR, so no need for a new radio.
other than that...sounds good to me have fun
