Hangar 9 33% Edge 540 review online now in rcu magazine
Hangar 9 33% Edge 540 review is online! We'll have some add'l video besides the maiden footage and the one 3D video as soon as the weather breaks. Still getting the feel for it and dialing it all perfectly in but she's a beauty as you will see. Tons of pics and a maiden video and 3D/aerobatic video clip online. Powered with the DA100 engine this aircraft has unlimited performance. Enjoy!

I am trying to get a scale big enough to put the fuse on to get the AUW and will post it to the review as soon as I do. The small shipping scales I have here only go to 13lbs so I need something bigger to get the fuse accurate. I didn't want to post a ballpark or make one up so as soon as I get it exact I'll pop it in on the spec section. I'd imagine I'm very close to the numbers that others posted who used the DA 100 combo though. Add a little for the smoker perhaps but that isn't much.

Do it like they do full scale planes... put your small scale under one wheel at a time. Actually, they use three scales, but this will work. Just make sure to use two blocks that are the same height as the scale under the wheels not being weighed or your results will be skewed.
Bonus... you can calculate your CG this way as well!

Did you check your initial CG with the fuel/smoke tanks empty? This my explain why it bordered on tail-heavy for the test flight (since the tanks are behind the CG). I think I would have done my initial CG with the tanks full in you situation.

The review was ok but it would have been nice to see it with the recommended engine like the Zen GT-80.

CG check was good with gas tank empty. Smoke had just few ounces in it though. It was not tail heavy for 3D. It was setup with rearward CG for 3D performance keep in mind. My comment about the CG in the review was such that if you intend to fly IMAC/aerobatics you would want to push it forward a bit. Typically competitors shift the CG around on their planes depending on whether doing IMAC or 3D. Pushing it more nose heavy for IMAC and tail heavy for extreme 3D.

Very few will go for the GT-80 so why set it up that way?

I had a DA 100 in my H9 Cap and like the way it flys, but always felt it was to much engine/weight.
I have a NIB H9 Sukhoi and want to try a single this time. Have to wonder how a single in the lighter Edge would be?
Do you feel the GT 80 is enough for the Cap for full 3D?

I'm about to pull it down from my rafters (it's all hoisted onto the ceiling now!) for the flying season so as soon as I get it down I'll way the plane. Mine has smoke in it too so that will add a touch too for the pump/tank/plumbing. Once I get the fuse down I'll weight it for you unless somebody else has a weight on the fuse w/DA-100 before I post!

Here is my EDGE 540. I chose a 3W 85 twin. right now I am looking at a 22lb AUW with no smoke. this motor shoud be more then enough for 3D. I am building it from good advise from my buddy and friend Sean Mc Murtury. I got to finish with a prop and spinner. then time to go fly!!!
