Default Flying without a cowl?

If I wanted to fly my 1/4 scale extra 260 wihtout a cowl for the first 1-3 flights (paint still curing), will it effect the flight charicteristics?

and if so, how much?

well I doubt you would notice the difference in flight, but the balance may not be the same which in turn could affect the flight characteristics.

more than that, is the engine may run differently with the cowl on versus the cowl off due to the way the air is hitting everything.

C.G. might be off too since there will be less weight on the nose.

I've noticed on .40-.60 sized models (when the cowl is removed), the plane flys slower. I would guess from drag.

FWIW I just weighed my 27% Extra 260 cowl and it weighed 7oz. without paint.

The best thing about flying without the cowl for the first few flights is that if you total it our you still have a perfectly good cowl for the next one you build.
