Making balsa stronger???
Hi guys I am not getting started in rc airplane's but I am entering a speed challenge to beat the world record speed of 111 mph. Rc car action said make it creative so I was thinking I would make my chassis out of balsa. I would like to know how to make balsa very strong but yet still keep it light?
Thanks, Shredder111 [>:]

RE: Making balsa stronger???
Cover the balsa with fiberglass and resin - the thickness of the cloth will determine the strength...
If you are unfamiliar with fiberglassing, do a search and you will find a TON of info... HTH.
Cheers!

apply 2 or more layers of thin balsa, cross grain. wetting,soaking,2nd balsa with water or alcohol and apply while wet over 1st, holding in place with rubber bands, etc. may take a couple of try's. when close to your contour, then glue in place. takes time, but it works. dick

Not many ways at all to harden balsa so that suspension and other attachment screws won't pull out.
Spruce would be a much better choice.
