How to get Monocote residue off Monocote
I have an ARF covered in Monocote. I removed a white stripe that was layed over the main colour (green). I just peeled it off, came off easy. But it left a haze behind.
I've read some other posts here, but didn't help.
I've tried alcohol, Laquer Thinner and Acetone. None worked. I tried "Goo Gone" too (similar to "Goof Off", etc) Nothing works.
What will get this off.

MonoKote Trim Solvent huh? You've used it and it works? I don't want to buy something else that doesn't work.
It won't hurt the base green covering will it?
Why is Simpleton saying I need to put another stripe over it?

Tower sells Ironex. Used for cleaning residue off covering irons. Works well in situations such as yours. P.S. - it's also a thinner for Balsarite.

The trim solvent works great. Ya it can be used for sealing, but it also disolves/removes... the monokote pigments easily. I use it to clean up where one color of monokote bled past the edge onto another color. It does give off fumes, so it's best to use it with good ventilation, doesn't take to long for the fumes to stop. Wear gloves and wet a rag or towel with the solvent and wipe away. It doesn't take much and works great -just like it should.

I'm surprised the acetone didn't get it. I use it all the time for removing residue, marker lines, monokote color bleeds, etc...
If you say it didn't work -- I gotta believe you; but I am suprised.
Good luck with the trim solvent. I've used that too and it does work; it's just to pricey for me.

RE: How to get Monocote residue off Monocote
Well, I picked up the Monokote Trim Solvent and... it didn't work.[]
What they heck could I be doing wrong? I dabbed it onto a Kleenex, and wiped and wiped... nothing.
I'm starting to wonder if this could be something other than MK adhesive? It was underneath a stripe I peeled off, and it looks like a dull coating on the covering underneath.
Do you need to really soak it and rub hard or anything?
I also tried putting a dry kleenex on the covering and used the iron on top, hoping the heat would suck the adhesive into the kleenex. That didn't work either.

If the solvent didn't take it off, it may not be monokote. The solvent is awesome stuff for cleaning. Are you sure that it's not the base color that is ruined due to buffing? Is the residue white? Can you just cover it up with something? Another stripe perhaps?
You shouldn't need to soak it, just damp enough to see should take up any color residue that is there.

I thought it was the adhesive. It's colourless. It's just a dull area where the stripe used to be. It was a white stripe over olive drab. The residue isn't white, so it's not the colour layer. I assumed it was the adhesive. What else could it be? When you adhere monocote over monocote, does it "etch" the shiney layer of the bottom colour?

It sounds like it is an adhesive decal stripe in which case the solvent wont work. What is left behind is the glue from the decal backing much the same as the glue left behind from a sticky price tag. I have had limited success with alcohol but dont know if anything stronger will work. Whatever you try to use make sure and test it so it doesnt damage the covering on your bird.
I have had glow fuel soften the glue on decals and striping before. Maybe that would work?
tks1

I have always used Lacquer thinner for cleaning and also putting on strips and such instead of buying the trim adhesive..Probably the same stuff..Just my 2 cents..Todd

I'll try the WD-40 as a last resort. Nothing else has worked.
I am likely going to scuff the entire plane with steel wool to take off the gloss anyway, nopefully it blends in better.

If the haze is from the covering material, Coverite Ironex will also so the job. Available through your favorite hobby retailer:
COVR2600 IRONEX CLEANER 8 OZ
You could also try "Goo Gone". That's a household solvent that's used to remove the sticky residue from price labels and such.
