Quick 47" Edge 540 Question!
Can anyone tell me if there is a rightside up to each wing rib, or are they all the same? I know the wing is being built upside down but do the ribs have a top and bottom to them? Also on the wing tips can I trace the R6 rib and just cut it out use that as a wing tip? Thanks!

RE: Quick 47" Edge 540 Question!
I just finished the Ace Edge Profile, which as far as I can see is a twin of the OMP. Assuming they are the same, or close to identical, then the ribs are the same whichever way you turn them, no top or bottom. On mine, all the ribs had identical shapes from spar to leading edge, then tapered off straight from spar to trailing edge with different chord lengths. That being so, I stacked them and gang-sanded cutouts for spars & leading edge as well as the outlines from spar forward.
As to the tip, what you suggest is what most guys do, although I added fancier tips to mine to pick up a bit more wing area for a heavier engine.

ShovelHead, I think I answered your question on the regular OMP email but anyway yes the ribs are symetrical and can be assembled either way.
Wow, an original Aces-1 RC Edge. Yes that was my first one done back years ago when i first started. Pretty rough kits by today's standards but I tried!

RE: Quick 47" Edge 540 Question!
Well, I'm glad to hear you call it rough, because it was not the easiest build I've ever done. I wondered if I was losing my touch. But I maidened it two days ago, wrung it out yesterday, had a blast. With a Saito 80 on it, it reminded me of how an RC model ought to look and sound. I will now start my standby kit (got two of them somehow), and after that it's an OMP for me!

RE: Quick 47" Edge 540 Question!
I have another question on the engine mounts. It shows balsa being on the right side of the fuse and the hardwood beams being on the left. But the engine mounts on the right side. The instruction say the balsa will be cut out. So does the engine sit down onto the hardwood rails to keep the engine thrust inline with everything? If so, do I also need to cut out the ply doubler for the fuse to countersink the engine? If someone has a picture that would help out alot! Thanks again!

I did not countersink my engine, although I suppose you could if you wanted to take the trouble. My engine bay has the hardwood in the middle, 1/16" balsa sheeting on either side, then the plywood doubler outside the balsa, then whatever you're using for a finish (I glassed & painted my fuselage). Engine mounting holes were drilled after the fuselage was completely finished.

Thanks Majortom for the comments! I'm still undecided on what I am going to do about the engine mounting, maybe someone else can chime in and give me an idea.

RE: Quick 47" Edge 540 Question!
Sorry for the delay but we just got back from Toledo. Yes, the engine should sit down onto the hardwood beams closer to the center line of the plane. In all honesty I've installed the engines many different ways on these profiles both flush on the righthand side doubler and recessed onto the engine beams and it really doesn't make any difference.

RE: Quick 47" Edge 540 Question!
Well now I've just come from the OMP site (ordered the 48" Katana) and I see they are offering Tetherite Offset Plates, which are recessed down to the hardwood mounts. If these plates are part of your set-up, I would be inclined to use them. As it is with mine, I have to fool around with setting up throttle to rudder mix (still working on that). Thousands of profile models have been flown just bolting the engine on, and many impressive flights have resulted, so the simple approach is no disaster. But if you want that extra touch of easy flying (I would!), by all means use the offset plates.

If I don't countersink the engine should I mount the hardwood rails on the right side of the fuse were the engine will sit or just leave over to left like it calls for? If theres not any diffrence I think I will just mount it on the outside. Thanks again!
