Default Motor Swap

I have a GS540 with OS 1.60 on it. The motor was on another plane and well broke-in. The problem is I can't get a good consistent run when in a hover. It's either too rich or too lean. I run a Pro Zinger 18-6 for a prop. I've tried the Smith Pipe. I now have the new OMP pipe on it. I've tried lower nitro (10%) different props(APC 18-6w and MAS 18-6). Yesterday I put a small header tank on it to try to keep it more even run, but doesn't seem to help. I'm past frustrated with this set-up. It shouldn't be this hard. I've never had one this hard to get going. Did I get a bad engine? I can't count on it and had it quit or not be lean enough when needed.
I'm considering changing over to gas as I have a BME 44 on the shelf for a future project. It also looks as though alot of people like the MVVS 2.15 gasser with the pipe. It looks as though I can cut some off the motor mount beams inside to mount one of the above set-ups.
I like the way the plane flies, but not the engine runs. Maybe a Moki and stay with glow?
Looking for advise. Please help!
Thanks, Cosmo

There is also a new Mark 2.10 gasser by Morris to consider as well. Give Robert a call and ask him about it. It's due in anytime.
