80 Inch Edge arf
Need to know if you have the 80 incharf edge in stock. Trying to decide which motor i have a YS 140sport but was interested also in the MVVS 2.15 > i have had several quotes on the price of the mvvs 2.15 ranging from 375 to over 400. Any suggestings on where to purchase the 2.15 .I see Morris Hobbies apparentily doesnt carry the 2.15 any more and i heard also that Horrizon will be carrying the evolution motors shortly which are made by MVVS > thanks Bruce

RE: 80 Inch Edge arf
Yes we do. I think the edge is my favorite over the Yak. It's got to be the most stable 3d plane of it's size there is. The Yak is a bit more nimble in the air. It's all a trade off. You are correct in the MVVS engine line. Found out at Toledo that Horizon bought the rights out and will be producing them under their Evolution name. Give Robert a call at Morris Hobbies though as he has a lot of good engine options including the new Mark 2.10 engine. Not sure if that comes gas or not yet? Also the YS140 is a very good option for the 4-stroke setup. The Saito 180 would be the other 4-stroke option. Of course my favorite is the OS160 with the new custom pipes we have. That setup is bullet proof!

Also i forgot to ask have i would like the edge to be personally inspected for tight wing tube fitting which i have heard from some buyers that is a problem and also have you got the landing gear holes and blind nuts installed on these . I also heard that was another oversight . I would like to be assurred i would be getting the plane with no damage also prior to shipping. Thanks

I have a Saito 1.80 that needs a home. Do you think this plane would hover at half throttle or less with the 1.80 ? I guess I like to be able to pull out of hovers with authority.

RE: 80 Inch Edge arf
Bruce, I am now inspecting all arfs before they go out. You are right in that there were some with tight wingtubes. That turned out to be just the release film the manufacturer used in producing the fiberglass wing tube sockets being left in the tubes. We have taken care of that problem. The instructions give you clear drawings and measurements for installing your gear. As always, we take care in making sure everything is packed well and secure before leaving OMP. Believe it or not however, there are occasional items damaged by the shipping companies. Yes I know that's hard to believe but it happens! One time we even got a kit back from UPS that had tire tracks across the box. Needless to say the kit was a complete loss!
There are many OMP giant profiles flying with the Saito 180 and we have heard similar performance to that of the 0s 160 setup. Both engines typically spin an 18-6 prop with great authority.

Get the quiet pipe MVVS sells for this engine.
It's an awesome combo with a 20x8 or 22x6 prop.
When you install it, be careful of mechanical interference between the pipe and right aileron.

RE: 80 Inch Edge arf
Heck I've flown my Edge/MVVS 2.15 without a muffler, the stock weedwacker, bissons pitts muffler and the 36" Morris pipe and never really saw that much of a difference in any of them. The MVVS is super strong and the plane is really light.
I found best performance with Pro Zinger 22/6 prop. It's pulls the plane really hard. But if it's new motor, or barely used I'd start out with 20/8 for few gallons.
My MVVS has never skipped a beat on me and purrs like a kitten. Vibration is minimal, especially compared to BME 50.

It's heavy, (I figure pipe + header = 1lb) and gets in the way of my aileron movement.
Could you guys point me to a muffler for side mounted engines, with exhaust nozzle(s) pointing down.
I looked in the usual places, and nothing jumped out at me.
Let me know how loud your recommendation is, if you can.

RE: 80 Inch Edge arf
Martyg and BAS,
Just my two cents, I wouldn't go back to the Bisson profile muffler for anything. I think I'd put a different engine on first, before giving up my MVVS header/muffler combination. As a gasser newbie, I put on the Bisson 35cc profile muffler just like the on on Jim Walker's yellow and translucent purple plane. Sure looked neat and clean. Well, I was underwhelmed by the power output. Yes, the plane would go vertical, yes it would hover, but it didn't have enough reserve for me to feel good about it. It also spewed black exhaust oil all over my landing gear, leading edge, and everything back on the right side. Long story short, I was flying one day and the Bisson fell off. Yes, I know, I didn't have it on good enough. Must have been around flight 30 - 35. Suddenly, the noise changed and the plane became a beast. I was hovering with confidence, backing it down, hitting the throttle and accelerating vertically with authority. It was amazing. I landed, found out what happened and flew it again. Made up my mind to forget about replacing the Bisson I never found and get the pipe. I like the looks of the pipe, the motor runs well with it, and like Dion says, a 20 x 8 Pro Zinger, or 22x 6 Pro Zinger seem to be just about right. Good transition, and never quits. Well, I have run it out of gas once. I mounted the pipe to the bottom of the fuse and have never had aileron throw problems.
FYI, the Bisson is the 35cc Profile muffler I got from Robert at Morris Hobbies. Bisson sent them six last year at the time I was hunting them down.

RE: 80 Inch Edge arf
Nice set up i just wondered did you ever try and cutting off about a 1/2 inch of the bissen muffler tips. I have heard on the Brisons DAs and ect type of motors it makes a big difference on rpms . Makes the muffler a lot less restrictive. I cant imagine not having enough power on the plane i am putting the 2.15 on no matter what type of muffler or pipe i would put on . I will see i guess in a few weeks when i get the plane flying.

Bas,
Never got the chance to cut the outlet pipes down before the muffler fell off. There was such a dramatic difference in how the plane flew when it fell off, and the C.G. changed so much at the same time I couldn't believe how differently and better the plane flew. I hunted for the muffler for a good half-hour and gave up. Decided to put the pipe on it before I was home.

RE: 80 Inch Edge arf
djccrn,
Thanks for the valuable input.
The pictures are worth a thousand words.
I'm surprised to read the Bisson muffler is that restrictive,
but glad I didn't have for fork over $65 to find out for myself.
I guess I'll be looking elsewhere to lose weight and shift balance to the rear on mine.
Irrespective of the weight, this motor/pipe combination is awesome.
Woudn't want much less, but this powerplant really tosses my 13.5lb plane around.

OK how much does the pipe run money wise . ??Also is it quieter than the bissen muffler ??

Call Horizon and see if they have the Evo version in stock yet.
Silicone coupler supplied with the pipe is junk. Will last 10 flights, tops.
Get a 22mm teflon coupler and clamps from a gas engine supplier like Aircraft International.
This will set you back $15 plus shipping. Problem fixed.
For mounting, I used two of the Dave brown nylon pipe mounts. [[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXB864&P=7]LINK[/link]]
Sound-wise, we measured my plane a 98dBA (Slow scale) at 10ft over asphalt.
