JR R955 vs R945 Receiver
Hello all! I'm getting ready to purchase a JR 10X PCM radio and wanted to get your opinions on the R955 and R945 receivers. The 945 is only 10 bucks more, but I understand its dual conversion. For you guys that have ran these what do you think (pros, cons, no pref. etc.). This is my first JR radio for my first jet and just wanted to try to set it up the best way I could the first time. Thanks for all your info.

955 my friend!!! Have em in all my birds. I heard that at meets where there are many jets up at one time the dual conversion RX can pick up interference. Make sure you look at the crystal in the module and RX. make sure they are both center dot. Another tip I learned from one of the BEST jet pilots around, SJMB!
Hope this helps

The center dot is a nice item to look for as stated above.
The 955S reciever will do just fine for you. The 945S reciever is a great reciever as well. The only interference I ever saw was on the older 940S reciever and have never seen it on the 945S reciever as it is an entirely different design.
Both will work just fine for you.

Thanks for the info guys! As far as the center dot on the crystals go, is that something you ask the seller to look at before buying or you just hope you get one when you order them? I'll me mail ordering mine since there aren't any sold locally here. Thanks again.

Afterburner1, I'm not sure who told you that the 945 will have problems with interference at jet meets but that is absolutely not true. I have been using them for three years now at many jet meets and switched from the 955 per the recommendation of Horizon just like George.
I was also told by Horizon that the 945 has the greatest ability to block interference. If I remember correctly it has something to do with the signal being filtered twice on the 945 instead of once on the 955. Not 100% sure that is correct but if you call Horizon they will tell to buy the 945 receiver if you want the highest protection from interference. Gary

I can attest to the 945 being one of the best receivers out there! I once flew a full flight with my HotSpot (Denver Jet Rally) without an Rx whip antenna (by accident of course) with a P-120 on board with no problems. The HotSpot flew as far away as 1000 feet away several times with no noticeable hits or turbine going to idle/shutdown. Once I landed and realized what happened, I checked the JetCat ECU for failsafe count and it registered a "1". I'm sold!

Robert,
I am not sure 945 can blocking interference, but I am sure dual conversion have more chance to survive. It just like your real plane always have 2 or 3 computers to back up. We all use 945 here in Hawaii.

I've personally used nothing but the 950S and 955S receivers for the past 9 years without a single Rf related incident. This is in giant scale aerobatic airplanes, turbine jets, sport airplanes and so forth. Sure they're single conversion, but the filtering going on in the 950 and 955 is so drastically different than anyone else that it's not even comparable.

For anyone interested, an excellent article on R/C RX and TX is on the San Diego Torrey Pines Gulls website at:
