RE: Turboprop Spitfire Video
Thanks a lot for the video guys. I never thought it would come out ok with the sun where it was. Shame about the prop hanging gasser 2 stroke[:'(] The again it does give you a comparison to appreciate the turbo prop against.
Chris. Glad we could bring a bit of sunny England to you. What you were looking at was the corner of south east hertfordshire, just on the north side of the M25. Glorious country on an evening like that.
Anyway the model is a Fiberclassics spitfire converted from zenhoa 62 gasser to the mighty Wren turboprop. This is the latest edition with no separate oil tank. The prop is a Menzs 28x10 doing I guess around 8-8500 rpm. Just right as the tips can bark pretty much on command but not all the time. The model weighs 38 lbs and thats with 8 lbs of lead. If I were to do another one I would think more carefully about the back end and lose most of that lead.
I hope you enjoy what started out as a joke and has turned into a very rewarding project

RE: Turboprop Spitfire Video
Whewww! If Great Britian had had Turbo-prop Spits back in WWII! Sort of like considering if Napoleon had had a B-52 at the Battle of Waterloo.... of course, though, he wouldn't know how to fly it.... Beautiful job Ali!

Hi Dave,
It's installed and working. Regretting it every moment. Smoke= Nasty stinky smelly heavy stuff that just turns a nice model into an old wreck. Still public seem to like it.

'Corse they (we) do! Just out of interest, Are you using the full 27lbs thrust from the P120*? and how much does the model weigh wet now?
Cheers, Dave
*presuming you're using a p120 in it.

Hi Dave,
The Hawk is running a normal P-120 as for weight I have n oidea but I would guess 23-24 lbs.
The Spitifre should be at weston park, and I will see if I can re send that email

That is just beautiful, Ali - and the sunset flight is really outstanding!
Now if you would just mount machine guns and blast that prop hanger the next time!!
Greeting from Tor/Norway

RE: Turboprop Spitfire Video
Hi all,
I was at Weston Park Model Show (NW of Birmingham) this weekend with our scale aircrew supplies stand (www.scaleaircrewsupplies.co.uk), and Ali put on demos on both Sat and Sun (+ a couple of evening demos for us traders!), and I can confirm to everyone, that this was a real show stopper!! The slow flying charachteristics were also very imprsesive, but the sound in real life is just awsome!
One thing Ali..have you got a pilot yet! If not, try and get to our stand at Cosford in July, or Catton Hall in Aug and I'll do you a deal!
As DB would say (much loved model airshow comentator in UK).....well done Buddy!
cheers
Mark

Beautiful Sunset,
Nothing beats the look of a beautiful warbird coming in out of that spectacular sunset. Very nice airplane, and the turboprop seems to really fit it quite well. Thanks for the great video from accross the pond.

RE: Turboprop Spitfire Video
Tor Hi,
Yeah, Machine guns would have come in useful on one of those passes, but as I said this is no fighting Spitfire. It's only meant to race. Anybody got a Turbo prop Mustang and a couple of pylons?
Mark Hi,
I stopped by at the weekend and looked at your stand. Impressive display of a novel product. Well done. I am afarid the Spit already has a pilot that the painter made especially for this model. It took him longer to do the pilot than strip and re-paint the entire model so I dont think he would be best pleased if I take him out in the near future. Thanks for the offer, and I may very well take you up on it with a future project.
I think I will use that sunset look again.

RE: Turboprop Spitfire Video
I suppose I have to see the funny side. This is the Tucano that is to blame for the spitfire project ever happening, as it was this tucano that I ordered my wren turboprop unit for originally, and the delay in the Tucano appearing is what lead to the Spitfire project starting.
I feel another telephone call to Wren coming on.
