Stand off's?
Hi All
While waiting for my DA-100 to be repaired, I plan to install my 3W 100B2 older TOC version in my Panzel.
The 3W is about 1 inch longer, If I cut the firewall shorter, what could I use as standoffs for the da, hopefully home made or from the hardware store?
Thanks
Bill

RE: Stand off's?
I have had good luck cutting oak (from leftover hardwood floor) into strips about one inch square. cut them to length and then drill a hole thru them for the bolt to pass. I would not try this with softwood because it might split. But the oak works well.

Go to Ace Hardware or any Home Improvement center. Get a piece of 1 inch hardwood dowel material. Like a broom stick but larger and harder. cut to length, drill a hole and you got it.

The hardest in compression and easiest to work with-- rock hard straight grain maple.
Oak is good -- grain is not like rock hard maple tho-
I mount 150/160 engines on blocks of this , in 1" squares. you can't even imprint the blocks.
I drill thru and use 1/4x20 bolts with Nylock nuts for best results.

Or, you could buy a different size set of standoffs from Roger Forgues @ [link=http://www.aerografixs.com/]Aerografixs[/link]. He will make them to whatever size you want.

If you don't want to use wood try this. In the plumbing department at Lowe's (I don't know about Home Depot) they have copper tubes that are threaded at both ends. They have them in one, two and four inch lengths. Cost if from one to four dollars each. They are fairly thick and won't bend. Best of all a 1/4-20 bolt fits right through the middle and you can cut them off to any length you want. Using them on a Giles and a Cessna.

whidbey1,
I agree with Dick on this one. We have used maple dowels on engines from 50cc up to and including 210cc without any problems. Use a large diameter to spread the load. I can't think of much that is stronger than a dowel in compression.
