Wasp_1 turbine
Has anyone seen, built, or run one of these. Whats it like? It seems like quiet a bit of money for a kit on it's own.

Hello Rupurt
The first delivery of engines and parts will begin later this month. What do you mean by "quite a bit of money" It must be about the lowest cost engine available for the thrust.

RE: Wasp_1 turbine
Phill H, ok thrustrice ratio is better than mw54. Have you seen the price of the jj engine kits? You designed the phoenix 30 didn't you? That was a lot of thrust for the kit that was 700 pounds(i think). I tried getting hold of plans for the phoenix 30 but i didn't get any replies from them.
Building the wasp from plans, is there anything besides the normal equipment required? any special process?
I am busy with a gt2000 and have been for a long time. so far i could have bought a couple of turbines for what I have spent on TIG welders, milling machines and my latest toy, a rotary table.
Thanks for your reply

Guys
This looks like a very interesting, light weight and good value turbine from a respected designer. 20 lbs thrust for £1,350 is serious value. To compare this to a Jetjoe is, quite frankly, laughable!

I really want to know if I should order a turbine wheel and a set plans for this engine. I am not really that interested in jets(planes) but I am interested in building turbines, I want to build something really noisy -when I have finished my current project- the phoenix 30 would have been good but i cant seem to get plans. This is the next most powerful engine on gtba site
John, I have a friend whose surname is Agnew, don't suppose you have any relatives is SA.

Actually yes the lady that stays behind my house has a dog that howls whenever she isn't there, she screams over the wall when I hover my heli, shoot my pellet gun, run in an engine, sneeze...... its really the loud wooshing noise I am after

There are a few people in the UK who have built them as far as possible, they are now waiting for the castings to complete them

RE: Wasp_1 turbine
Im using the FADEC with Hausl pump. The kit is just as easy to build (no machining, tapping etc) just straight assembly.

Which ECU's are you preferring?
Is the kit as easy to assemble as a Wren?

RE: Wasp_1 turbine
Yes i did design the 30.3.
To machine the Wasp parts, you dont need anything more elaborate than a lathe, mill/ drill and either a spot or tig welder. the drawings have two versions of the combustor depending on what type of welder you have.
The kit engine it a straight bolt together job.
re 30.3 plans You probably wont get a reply from microjet that makes any sence. sadly they have gone insolvent and got rid of all employees. They only reply to emails that look like big money earners (not that they have any ability to make anything)

Hello Phill, finally after many years a new alternative for homebuilders.
I have 100+ flights on my MW and JG100 powered planes but I too tend to find the engines themselves more interesting.
Would the wasp design work allright if scaled up or down to take 54 or 66mm compressor, ngv and turbines?

RE: Wasp_1 turbine
I dont see why it cant be sized up or down to suit different rotor sizes. as with all new engines, you will have to go through the inevitable experimental stage to get it working properly.
