Default NEW EVOLUTION 116GX TWIN GASSER!!

HEY guys I just saw this new twin in my Horizon Hobby flyer,, I believ this thing will be great competition for DA and 3W ,, and I think by judging the 58 this should be a powerhouse,, it retails for 1199,,, which is in line with the DA's and 3W's,,, it has some new carburation ideas on it,, anyone else seen or heard anything,,,,,

If you leaf through all their engine stuff, you eventually [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByCategory/Product/Default.aspx?ProdID=EVOE116GX]find it here[/link].

30'' X 10'' @6,100 is pretty impressive.
Who's the first one to plop down $1,200.00.

It's a re-badged MVVS twin, not a "new" engine as such.

There are plenty of posts referring to the "authentic" product, if you do a search. Pe has them listed at his web site.

So is this considered a 100cc class engine?
If so, then this is a lot of power for such a small engine.

I had one and sold it before I could run it, nice looking engine, but about 1lb heavier than any of the other 100s. The ignition unit is HEAVY

A little heavy and a little wide plug to plug compared to the DA-100 and 3W-106. Dimensions similar to a ZDZ-120 or 160. Power seems very good from the user reports. Maybe they need a magnesium case and a short stroke to make it practical for the planes that call for a 100cc gasser?

I have been paying attention to the magnesium case version of the mvvs 45. The weight and power numbers are very impressive on that engine. The power numbers are impressive on all of the mvvs/evo engines. If they start to use the magnesium cases and get the weight down like on their 45s, these might be the hottest gas engines on the market.

IMHO there are plenty of strong and reliable engines to cover the 33% to 38% size planes. If somebody has a 35% plane that's a little large for a 100cc, the zdz160 can be used without much weight penalty. What is needed is an engine to be suitable for the 40% Yaks, and 42+% Extras, somthing in the 200cc rang, that really has 33% more power than a 150cc. The 3W 200B2 has been reported to be a dog, the 3W240 adds allot of weight. I am running a Herbie 280cc in a 40% Yak54, and it is not overpowered, it is just right. If you''re going to come out with a 100cc class engine, don't come out with something weighing more than 8 lbs.

If I did my math right, it appears to be only about 1/2 lb. more than the 3W 106.

The difference between a 100 powered , larger 35% model and the 160 setup is just too big to really appreciate -till you fly one .
The 210 ZDZ on cans is also very strong .
I am scaling back-in size - my newest shock flyer -is a modified ZDZ80 single on a pipe - 7300 on Mejzlic 26x10.
I flew a 35% WH Extra on it - modifed cut/clipped /drilled,etc., down to 26 lbs -A super combo
Sold my full size Chev van --now fit things into a slick old 4 banger Subaru wagon--easy on the gas ----

The engine should be considered a 120-class, and outperforms most- if not all of these, due to the internal flow balancing.

Dick,
That is some serious power. The plane could weigh up to 30 lbs for perfect 3-D.
What did you do to the engine? Prop power demand at that rpm is nearly 11.5 hp!

It is all in the full pipe tuning-using a AMT 80 size pipe .It isn't peaky
the engine time is different -the carb is different-
It is almost exactly 350 rpm more than I get using a current, factory stock 80 single on same pipe and header.
30 mm header dia -10" long giving overall tuning to band on pipe at 75cm from port.
Please factor in 4350 ft altitude density on the prop power calculation.
I found on all the ZDZ's -a larger dia header is needed for best , smooth throttle performance.
The real performance gain is on the slow speed throttle response on the 26x10 -it is simply instant.
I will have the engine ,pipe and on board tach all in the air soon so I can be certain of how it really works as that combination .
The 50 on the pipe and 22x8 Mejzlic is very surprising-as the in flight recorder shows
The prop is a std one but the tuning combo produces rpms way off the chart 8340 in level flight -remember this is at 4350 so prop horsepower requirement is not the same as sea level -but in direct comparisons with other setups -it is still high.
Switching the new 80 to a largest JMB can (30mm inlet 80mm dia ) shows a gain over the std 80x300 JMB can. of almost 150-200 rpm -This is setup we are now flying which starts at 6700 on the ground.
and goes nuts in the air.
This week end we will try a ZM 26x12 prop (huge piece of glass!) andadding the new on board tach storage (same as MVVS) try to find best setup for our 22 lb H9 EDGE .

RTK, the mvvs weight does not include the ignition, which if I remember correctly was 12-13oz by itself. Not sure what a DA/3W ignition weighs.

The MVVS is 7lbs 13.4oz with ignition. 7lbs 4oz without ignition. (this is based on MVV's advertised specs.)

It likely has more features in it than other ignitions
So -it weighs more . -between 8-9 ozs
My ZDZ twin ignitions weigh 7.4 ozs
They also have auto shut shut down after idle period
tachometer readout (direct and tach memory for reading max rpms in flight.)
what features do the light ones have?

I never have used one of those new fandangled ignitions. I do have a newer 3W ignition that does not seem to weigh as much as that one and it has multiple leads which I don't use. I just usually either have mine on or off.
A few more Electronic circuits can't be that much more.

A CH ignitions twin cylinder setup weighs 225grams or 7 7/8oz for reference.

I do have to admit Dick I too enjoy using new gadgets and tinkering. Unfortunately I barley have time to fly so I am staying away until more time is available. That's why I rely on the information from you and a few others. Then when I jump in, the learning curve is not so bad.
