109.00 60 size P-51!!!
I won this P-51 on Ebay the other day for 109.00,I recieved the plane today and I must say it looks VERY nice for 109.00 60 size plane with retracts,65 in. wingspan and weight will be 7.8 lbs!
The retracts are solid fiberglass and has WM # on them I asume it may be World Models Gear.
This came with Fuel Tank..all the pushrods, fiberglass cowl and a painted canopy(no spinner) and engine mount.
The servos for the Tailfeathers mount as the H9 does in the back fuse.
The instructions are a little vague but if you have built some ARFs you can figure them out.
This model I believe sells for 119.00 on AK-models website.
Anyway..thought you guys might want to take a look!

Bummer...No spinner! Hmmph. Oh well. Can you tell me what size spinner this plane takes? Just ordered a 13x6 3 blade and am looking at a 3" triblade nylon spinner to go with it.
Oh, I won one of those AK auctions, too and mine should be here end of the week.
Appreciate any feeback.

that is basically the "crappy" version of the H9 Mustang.
I looked at both, I bought the hangar 9 and if I had to buy again, it would be hangar 9 again.
The h9 flies better as well, but for the price, you can't beat this plane.
put a G-90 in it with slimline sportscale muff.

I have not begun to build this plane but have looked it over and all...one thing that is sort of wierd is the retracts..you have to put them together...the gear are sandwiched between 2 blocks of plastic..they might end up spinning..it looks like they might have to be JB welded.
"Point" when you get you'res tell me what ya think?
As far as a spinner..I think a 3.25 in spinner would be the one..but a 3" might work too.

Mine came with a Red plastic spinner. I believe its about 3.25 inches. I am actually impressed with the model considering the cheap price. The fuel tank has only about half the parts. I hope to have it flyin by Saturday.

Nah the plane flies fine. You will have to replace the retracts though. They will burn up your retract servo. I replaced them with robart mechanicals. I think about 32.00 at the LHS. Also replaced the spinner. The one that came with it broke while breaking in motor. If you can get past the instruction manual omisions, and some parts that dont fit too well It is a great flying airplane. Oh and put the largest rubber wheels that will fit in the wheel wells.

RE: 109.00 60 size P-51!!!
Recv'd mine today. Actually, it's not a bad value for the money. The top deck sheeting is a tad thin so I'm glassing some 2oz. on the inside from the cockpit forward. The fuselage sides are 1/8" soft balsa so be careful abusing it on landings...
No spinner in the box. The nose ring measures 3-1/2". Ordered a 13-6 3-blade but can only find 3" 3-blade spinners.....drat!
Ran the heat gun over the whole thing as the Oracote was sagging everywhere.
Retracts. Hmmm...never built retracts before. However, glass-filled nylon is tough and the gear legs are keyed,(90 degree bends) so rotation isn't an issue. Once assembled, I am impressed with their simplicity and smooth operation. I really torqued the 4 small bolts that hold the legs sandwiched within the main retract housing. Driving the pins through the body took a 4lb hammer and are quite secure. I'm confident that these will hold up until such time that I deem it worth replacing them with something else. Not sexy but a solid design.
I purchased an SK .80 to pull this thing around the sky. Should prove interesting...will need an exhaust extension though. I hate Pitts mufflers and hiding my powerplant-muffler within a cowling has never been a fetish of mine.
My biggest b*tch is the color scheme. Too many of these already at the local field so I'm gonna change a few things. The yellow eppenage will be the 1st to go. The invasion stripes are fine on the wings but in real life they were carried over onto the lower aft fuselage as well so I'll be adding these. I'm repainting the red cowling with checkerboard, back and white with a red border only, probably about an 1/8" all around. Profile 3-views will aide in this area. Lotsa resources online for the '51...Black spinner.
The wings are SCREAMING for 90 degree flaps! I'll be resisting that urge until I ding it the 1st time and have to repair stuff anyway...might as well be philosophical about it.
All that canopy and nothing under it. The inside fuse area "could" be modified to allow for a semi-scale cockpit...wouldn't want to take it all the way, though. Maybe 2" deep to allow for a seat, intrument panel of sorts and a few side details. Adding a gunsight is an absolute must! It's amazing what a little superglue, some K&S Engineering sheet styrene and imagination can accomplish.
Ok, I'm done. Sorry to ramble on so but this model has SO much potential!
As soon as I figure out the magic to post photos here, I'll throw a few into future posts.

RE: 109.00 60 size P-51!!!
Point...I kinda liked the way the retracts are..they are simple but work quite well..(haven't flown it yet)
I got a question???In the instructuions it shows to put the retract servo in lengthwise...it won't fit..it will only fit sideways...I do not see anyway to mount the servo in the wing..if you get the servo in the wing somehow there is no way to get at the screws to tighten down the servo.
In order to get this servo in I would have to carve out a big piece of the plywood that holds the wings together as you can see.
How did you get you're's in?

RE: 109.00 60 size P-51!!!
By cutting widthwise, you can mount the servo parallel to the leading edge. The plans, like most else on this thing are useless.
Both panels on my kit had that laminate cracked off at the leading edge. I epoxied a piece of maple inside the area exposed by the wheel wells and drilled 2-1/4" holes for dowling to be used to hold the wing on. It's not just one thing with this d*mn '51...it's a lot!
I'm still dinkin' with the d*mn motor mounts....
:-(

P40,
I was scanning through and noticed your comment about the retract servo. I've had to remove sheeting before in order to open up the hole that existed beneath it. I've even made new holes for additional servos (single to dual aileron servos). As long as the hole is covered by the fuse who cares.
Don't worry about removing some of the center rib(s) where the wing halves are glued together. The wing joiner is the important part.
Nice ARF for the $ IMHO
Good Luck All
Jeff
