Default Super Sportster Twin

Thank you RCU for the twin forum. You guys are OK.
My frist RC twin was a Midwest TwinStik back in about 1982. Have built maybe 10 more twins since than. I have currently a scatch built B-25 and a TF DC-3 done in Navy R4D colors with Magnums 30s and Robart retracts. Having flown full scale DC-3-C47s, I really enjoy flying this model. The Magnums fly it "to scale". I agree, the OS 26s are not enough power.
The Super Sportster Twin is built from RCM plans #930. First one I built was in 84 and it flew great with two OS 25 FSRs. The second one I used a Great Planes Cherokee 40 kit (no longer avalable) that used the same wing as the sportster. Used the same engines but installed flaps and retracts. Looked just like a Twin Commache and flew great, even on one engine.
The Super Sportster Twin is a easy conversion that looks and flys great. Just thinking, maybe I should build another one.

Did you ever think about putting a third engine on the twinstick? I have one kit left and am planning on doing that next year.

Thought about that third engine on the TwinStik myself. I think the wing being held on with rubber bands changed my mind. If I'd try it now, I'd bolt that wing on. Good luck!

rusgmil..
You are sooo correct.. BOLT on wing... On my TwinStix it has four
bolts attaching wing on... I also recently extended the leading
edge so that it has 'square' wing tips.. ade a HUGE diff in the way
that thing handles..
Here is a minor write-up and some pics of it..

I kinda like the idea of a Super Sportster twin. I have a SS60 that would do great with another wing and a glass cap on the nose.

I think I need to clarify that the Super Sportster Twin Plan #930 is a conversion of the SS40 kit to a twin. What you get is templates for the nacelle parts, installation instrutions, and revised plans showing all the changes to the wing, nose, and tail sections. 25 2Cs would provide plenty of power.

I'm in the middle of building the SUPER SPORTSTER TWIN. I found the magazine article a long time ago, and have been kicking it over for a while now. I started it about a year ago and am just now getting the gumption to get back to it.
I started it after I put my TWINSTAR in. I'm going to set it up with OS 40 FP engines.(had them on the TWINSTAR)

How many guys here have and fly them?

Have what! Got a twinstar. Just thinking about modifying my SS60. Too many in front of it to get serious.
