Saito 220 on DP Edge 540t
Hi Guys
Previously I setup my DP Edge 540T with a Saito 180 running a 18 *6 prop. This setup flew like a scale Edge while not bad it was no overpowered 3D machine.
Here is a link to the Video with the Saito 180.

OK now here comes the good part!!!!!!!!!!!
The Saito 220 gives totally unlimited performance on this machine transforming it into an absolute animal.
On Take Off before I got to full power she was ripping straight up. I just kept it nailed and the DP from Take Off spec out.
Numerous vertical from slow flight produced the same results. Now here is the best part replacing the Engine Mount and the wheels as well as a Carbon Landing Gear produced a Model that weighted 14 lbs and 5 ounces.
I'll shoot a Video in the next 2 weeks to show the difference. But there are other choices if you don't want Gas or a Moki and the Saito 220 is extremely smooth running and is not a Gas Guzzler after a 5 min flight I still had 1/2 a tank in my 16 Ounce Tank.

RE: Saito 220 on DP Edge 540t
Good to hear about the 220 in the edge I have the DPM Blue head 210 in mine it flies well, but not a 3D monster.
how much does that saito 220 cost compared to a 40-50 gasser?

RE: Saito 220 on DP Edge 540t
Cost is running within $50 to $100. The following are Chief's prices:
Saito 220- $499.95 (a bit more for the Golden Knight version)
DA 50- $595.00
ZDZ 50- $569.00
3W 42- $425.09
It's probably about the same everywhere else.
Glad to hear about your fuel consumption on the 220. All I've heard so far is speculation from guys who havent even seen one in the box yet, let alone running on a plane, and they are already convinced it is nothing but a fuel hog. Based on your experience, I guess it would be safe to say that a 20 oz tank would yield a 10 to 12 minute flight, correct?

Eh, I dont know... when you get up into aircraft that require a $500 or $600 dollar engine, some would say you're DEFINITELY dedicated whether it's gas OR glow!!

RE: Saito 220 on DP Edge 540t
Fuel Tank Size.
The 220 is burning just slightly more then a Saito 180 so my 16 oz tank will work for my normal 7 min IMAC Flight with enough for a few Go Around or reserve.
In-flight profile is typically 1/2 throttle only in the Verticals did I use full throttle and considering that all I was doing to make sure I liked the new combination pretty good fuel consumption.
With regard to Glow Vs Gas Dave Patrick and I spoke for about 20 min on the phone and decided the Saito 220 was worth a try she is lighter then either the Moki 180 or the 210. The DA 50 which I could have used as well was much heavier. The wing loading is making this plane fly extremely well however today the winds were gusting to 25 mph and she was a bit nervous in the air a heavier machine would have that a bit more controlled look.
There is no doubt that the Saito and Horizon Hobby folks have what seems to be one of the finest 4 stroke power-plants I have ever used or seen.
This engine from the moment I started breaking it in on the test stand was vastly smoother then my 180s and I have had over 15 Saitos engines thus far.

RE: Saito 220 on DP Edge 540t
Funny I was just thinking about the Saito 220 and DPM Edge the other day. The thing is that there really is no glow engine that can truely turn that ARF into a 3D animal (like it's bigger gasser brothers). It's either a lower powered Moki 2.10 or a higher powered 50 CC gasser which adds a lot of weight to a 79 inch bird. So from what you're saying Dave Patrick should be very happy right now because an awesome flying ARF has finally received its engine from Saito. I have the Moki 2.10 on mine and it really lacks the pull out power for me to want to get down on the deck. That Saito 220 sounds perfect. I think I'd go with a 20 oz tank even though the 16 oz tank saves 4 ounces of fuel weight.

RE: Saito 220 on DP Edge 540t
reimorei--- I am finishing up a DP Edge ARC that I have lightened considerably and will be trying a YS 1.4 DZ on it. Projected weight is about 12 lb. At that weight it should be a 3D feather.
