I remember a full-scale 707 (I think) flying into a bunker once....was supposed to test the effects of a crash, but got a surprize when the low amount of fuel exploded! It was radio controlled!

I think Gordon Nichols 23' wingspan B-52 Buff would rank right up there...

There was a B-29 that flew out of Ida Grove at a big fly in at I think, The Byron fuel / plane co back in the late eighties. It had, if I remember correctly a 29 ft wing span. They had a big reproduction attack of I think Mid-way(not sure though) anyway, The plane would do a bomb run as part of the end of the show. BUT on this one occasion it crashed after it dropped its bombs. I used to have it on video but I think it's long gone by now. by the way do they still have that fly in at Ida Grove still? Because I never here of it any more.

Yep, Byron's B-29 had its moment of glory. So did Mr. Byron himself, but sad to say he died a year or so ago. And no, the "best" fly-in (at the time) is no more

Tailskid, the 707 was testing anti-flame ingredients added to the jet fuel. They were testing to see if the additives would make a crash more survivable for the passengers. That additive is credited (by the manufacturer at least) to be one of the reasons so many survived the DC 10 crash/cartwheel many years ago, by preventing the fire that would have killed most of the survivors.

Torqued-Up, isn't that B52 the eight jet engined model that crashed and was totally destroyed a while back? I've seen picks of one flying, as well as the hole it made on crashing

Sweet!!! When I was out at Scaled Composites, there was a company there at the airport that did the retro fitting to RC. Everytime they would get one up, they would do a highspeed pass down the runway that faced the hanagers.

My God are they loud!!!!

The only hing that I ever heard that was louder, was a U2 that took off out there one day. I thought the hanager was going to come down!

This was on RCU a while ago... Don't remember any specs on it, other than it was going to have 4 big turbines on it.

Silvanskii,

The model in your picture is a Valliant, built by Simon Staggal in the UK, have a look at

http://www.largemodelassociation.com...gals%20Valient

Which has some details on the construction.

Neil
