Default y/a f4 single f18?

Are these planes very big? Will I be able to see them from a far distance? And do they require a turbine conversion kit?

Hi,

Their specs are available on a couple of websites (mine included). Whether you'll be able to see them is a very subjective question. I can see them, but someone else might say they cannot. As far as a turbine conversion kit is concerned, there really isn't one. Some outfits might package up a few items you'll need (and maybe some you don't) and call it a conversion kit, but there aren't any items you need that you can't get from Yellow (tanks and pipes) or your local hobby shop. This is particularly true of the F-18 Single. Hope this helps....

Mixmaxx:
I built one of the older F-18 kits for turbine, it was fine, I added some heatsheild to the aft end of the fuse, a pipe from Tam's, put the P-70 in and flew. The newer kits are much nicer, and reinforced.
As for seeing the jet is fast at full throttle, but handles slower speeds well.
I have built the F-4 but have not flown it .
A nice point about the 18, is there are lots of different choices in regard to paint that will make it easy to see.

Good luck!
Kevin

So both the f18 and f4 are ready for a turbine as a kit?

I have the F-18 in Blue Angels color scheme, for putting a turbine I had to add the turbine mounts myself, I don't know if the newer kits have it in place. The jet handles great and it is fun to fly. The blue angles scheme is a bit dificult to see if the jets get a bit far away.

Shawn can help you a lot with this jet, he is a great guy to deal with.

I found the y/a hornet to be initially intimidating, after all at the time i had limited fixed wing flying time. After some stick time and seeing it in person flying around you are actually easy to keep up with it, even in ifr conditions(remember that one shaun). its not the twin or some of the other monster jets that are flying around but it is a honest plane that has a wide performance envelope. when flying turbines i think the concentration level increases so one is more tuned to what the aircraft is doing and where it should be heading. Lucky for me Yellowaircraft was very instrumental thru out the build and buddy cord learning process. thanks shaun it would still be in a box with out your help. here are a few pics as you can see the trash cans for size comparison. the relationship to the sidewalk. btw this bug sports the bigmouth p80. so when she wants to go she can go speed on tap, but even with the low vis it remains visible. all necessary equipment needed was obtained thru yellowaircraft. special thanks for the conformal front tank. btw thats the squadron masscot

hey mikmaxx,
once begun, halfway done.

Milkmaxx,

You need to install your own mounting hardware and rails in either of those planes, depending on what engine you're using. In Yank&Bank's case, I believe he used the stock mounts because he had a P-80. I've done installs of smaller engines, and needed to extend the rails. It all depends.

Could you install the jet joe 14 lb in it and not have to modify it. Is the modifying hard and expensive.

Hi,

I don't know anything about Jet Joe, but no, the modifications for the F-4 consist of getting a pipe and some 1/4" plywood.

mikmaxx, I think you should go out to the field, and see how the guys setup their planes, and have a good chat with them, before you invest in something you dont have a clue about.
No one buys a complicated jet to start off with. There are so many unknowns with your first jet, that you will have trouble geting it all to work properly together.

How many years have you flown prop planes ?
