I want to buil a p-38 1/4 Scale, but I don't know the best plan to build it.
Can someone help me.
Is there someone that knows a best plan a big one.

I'm planning on using the ziroli plan to shrink down to about 96". Mostly because ziroli has a good track record.

Do you realise how big of a plane this would be..?
1:1 = 52' w/s, 38' lenght..
1/4 = 13' w/s 9 1/2' lenght

More so would be the weight...
This would give an approx weight close to 100#... Well,, mebbe 80# or so...

Thats a greta looking C you have there,Enrique,, and thankfully you don't
have the same restrictions in ARGENTINA that we do in USA... [8D]

Prolly best bet would be to enlarge Zirolia to size you desire.... Being
as most Zirolia planes are over built there should not be much problem
in making it larger by the plans..

Any size is ok,, weight is limited to 55 pounds...

There is provisions for getting wavier for plane over 55#..

Where this is not law, it is a guideline that has been
set forth that most all flying areas adhere to...

it basically has to do moreso with insurance than anythng..

Check out warbirds.com. There is a guy there that enlarged some corsair plans and built a really big corsair. Not sure but I think he used ziroli plans also.

I admire your inspiration to build a huge P-38.

I think the Lightning is unequaled for thrill factor in a model. Over the last several years, I have owned 6 of them.

I would caution against a very large project as your first, however.

Part of the "thrill factor" is high wing-loading, crappy engine-out performance, fragile long-legged gear, and overall high level of multi-system complexity, which of course tranlates directly to high probability of something-gone-wrong.

I think establishing familiarity with the aircraft (a smaller one?) would improve your chances of success and certainly be a less expensive venue for mistakes.

I think anyone in the "Brother hood of the P-38" will agree that the tiniest of mistakes lead to disaster.

My largest P-38 is the CBA kit (far right) at 126" WS, not nearly the 1/4 scale you seek, but still a very big, very loud, very fast bird.

One more thing:

The CBA-38 weighs 54# fully loaded. The hassle factor goes way up for anything over 55#.

Why, sho!! Always happy to spread the gospel of 38!

The CBA is a mostly glass model made by, well, CBA. I have the guy's name and phone # in my files at home. I don't know if it's still in production, or available on a custom basis, or what. I tried Googling CBA today and didn't come up with much.

Wingspan is 126", haven't measured the length lately, weight is 54# full of fuel. Mine has twin DA-50's turning counter-rotating 22 X 10 Zinger Props at about 6,500 rpm. It's easy for the DA folks to reverse one of their engines for you, but a little tougher to find just the right size pusher prop. I fly it with a JR 8103, two PCM receivers, 4 heavy duty JR charge switches (two for ignitions), eleven JR and Hitech servos, a few of them reversed to simplify the mixing and the linkages for the rudder and elevator, whose servos are in the aft booms. The gear is heavy-duty custom Gary Barton...air up, spring down. It has inboard flaps only, which are air-powered off an independent air system.

It is very loud, and moderately fast (for a 38), and flies very straight and very heavy (even for a 38). If you don't keep decent throttle on final approach, it will drop the last 3 feet without any regard for elevator input!

As is my custom, I marred the finish on one wing by asking an 80+ year-old exB-24 bombardier from the neighborhood to sign it.

I have less than 20 flights on it, including half a dozen this year, 'cause I've been flying the P-61 and the Fw-190 more for some reason, but I do like it a lot.

Thank you nony, That plane is in Vancover BC, but I could not remember where I had the pictures. He has been working on that plane for two years that I know of.
You might go to http://www.rccanada.ca/index.php and I know that there are guys who are up on that project. Our Canadian cousins must have less Big Brother...at least on this project than the US.

It has been on the boards for at least 4 years now... Also, it will be way beyond the weight limit for model airplanes up here as well, but with private insurance and a special waiver from Transport Canada, it may fly..hopefully later this year..

Not sure here after 15yrs if anyone ever found out if this 38 ever got off the ground or not it looks to be the same 37% scaled up Ziroli that was built in the Skunk Works, or if anyone checks this thread but I think my buddy located this one in a crate 19ft wingspan with 12' booms!
