I would strongly recommend a DR over an AirCrappy.... Err Wild.... Wild crappy.... yea....
Seriously their stuff comes out heavy, period. I know DR is better than that. I have had first hand experience with the Airwild, therefor I would recommend something else.
However if you choose AW, then make sure you get a powerful engine, and keep the plane as light as possible. Depending on setup, and how much epoxy is soaked in it, you may have balance issues.

RE: So which plane Airwild or Dr
I have flown my 35% AirWild Edge twice. It flies good and will do alot more than I am capable of. There was a video of it on the AirWild website. I have heard bad things about it but seems ok to me. I know of one that is on it's third or fourth owner and they absolutely love this plane whereas the first owners didn't. I got my as one of the 2nd's for $700 which I just checked there is still 1 availble and that to me was too good of a deal to pass up.
My only issues with it are that it may be a bit heavy. I used 5955 servos, 1 each aileron and rudder, and 5945 for the elevators. I also use 3 7.4V Lipos, for Ignition and 2 For Reveiver with regulators, I have a DA-100, and kept everything bare and light as possible. I did install a smoke system which added weight too. My first flight the plane was balanced at the front of the recommended CG and it flew so tail heavy I almost harrier landed it. The next flight everything including the smoke system is pushed as far forward to the front firewall and ziptied. I also added 2 Oz Lead to the nose and 2 Oz to the Left wing panel to help the balance. It flew so much better. The final dry weight was about 29 pounds. I have been flying the DA with a 27x10 and will switch to a 28x10 to see if it pulls it better.
Other than the balance issue I have been very happy so far. There aren't many of these out there so it is still new and unique to me. If I ever ball this up I may try the DR or Composite Arf, I agree that I like the Wing Tubes better than the floating spar. It will depend on price and what is available at the time.

Sounds Like a good combo, I really like the 5955's and will probably replace the 5945 in my elevators with them too. There is nothing wrong with them now but I like the 5955's why not go all the way.

Have you ever owned an Airwild plane? 35% Airwild Edge, Da100 w/standard mufflers, Nimh packs and no smoke = 26.9lbs RTF. That seems like its right in the ballpark with all the 35% planes out there.

Jeff always flew the 40% Katana. He won a Composite-ARF Super Extra at the Shootout, so he may be flying that for 2006. I didn't hear what he decided to do with it.
Both planes fly excellent. I don't think either is a bad choice.
Good luck!!

RE: So which plane Airwild or Dr
(I've never seen Jeff compete with it. His brother, Matt, on the other hand flies it quite well in competition. I watched him fly it at the fall Riverside contest. It flew very nice!! He beat Steve Hannah, who was one of the top Advanced pilots in the country last year. Steve was 2nd place at the Tucson Shootout. Steve and Matt will both be in Unlimited for 2006, but I know Matt will do well as always.

I've got 6 flights on mine and I love it! DA100, Slimline Smoke, CF Wing Tube and Gear, 8611A's on Rudder and Elevator, wrightrc cockpit. No lead necessary for balance, still a bit nose heavy...CF Spinner is next!
