Default getting a revo but have questions!

well iam thinking of gettin a revo but i have some questions
can you take out the tranni with out takin off any thing else off the truck? how hard is it to take it out?
do you have to take apart the hole truck just to get to the front and rear diffs?
can you make the radio box water proof (more like rain and mud proof)?
can the truck handle moto cross jumps?

here is my rc background
i had 2 nitro cars (a yokomo on road used for railly, and a hpi nmt1: hyper21(then changed it to the 2.5)). i was thinking of the savage but i wanna try traxxas because the trx2.5 was the best engin i had besides the21(broke to meny parts with it), running at stock settings even after ten tanks will still break parts but not as bad as the hyper. when i had the stock fe engin it didnt want to coperate with me, and i hated it, it caused me to go to electric for awhile untill i got the hyper and the trx2.5. i will not own any more hpi motors any more they stink compaired to the traxxas motor!!

Sounds like your asking about a savage..J/K Dont know yet Im waiting on my revo, but from having a savage and my friends having revos.I noticed its easier to work on the revo,But then again the savage never breaks, only problems with a savage might be the slipper getting lose once in a while. If you have a upgraded motor, also melted spurs,if there not installed correct.I find taking out the tranny out, in both trucks is easy, now diffs is a whole other issue.

About you saying hpi motors are no good, well I disagree. The hpi .25 is one of the best and most dependable rtr engines,Way better then the stock revo engine..Want to have one of the fastest engines around, just go ahead and port the hpi.25

Taking the tranny out... let's see.... bottom skid plate.... yeah, that's it. Comes right out.

Front and rear diffs... OMG, this is a chore. Plan on taking apart a lot of stuff. There may be tricks to it, but the diffs are deep. Take apart all of the front and rear suspension.

Rain and mud proof... lots of people run in rain and mud. There are plenty of wet condition setup tips here and on Traxxas website.

Motocross jumps.... That's what the Revo is for! Land wrong and you'll break a tie rod, but you gotta land really wrong to do that!

To remove the transmission you need to remove:

1. 4 x screws holding the skid plate.
2. screw holding the brake linkage.
3. the 2 yoke screws

Transmission can now be removed.

Diffs are a complete ball game altogether.. Here's a rear breakdown

1. remove complete left and right a-arms, drive axle, push rod and toe link
2. remove engine, exhaust
3. undo 2.5mm nut on rocker arms and remove rocker
4. loosen shock mounts to a point where they are free of chassis
5. remove engine mount
6. entire diff housing can now be removed
7. using a screwdriver pop the diff out ensuring the drive pins are aligned with the slot.

Rinse and repeat for putting it back together.

Not the sort of job to do at the track (race will most likely be over)

Rain and mud Can be done but the cleaning up afterwards is enough to put me off. Besides, one bad spill, a lost air filter and all that mud to go nicely into the carb. Remember it's not just the radio box that needs protecting.. You'll need to waterproof the air filter and the servos.

Hmmm motocross.... guess there's a golden rule... if you can afford it, break it.... seriously though, the revo can jump but practice on smaller jumps first. Takes a little throttle/brake control to get the Revo landing right. Also if you're planning massive air, consider a few mods to strengthen the likely damage points.

Regardless the Revo is a beast and can take whateever you dish out to it.. The only difference is the bill at the end of a day's play.

LOL... wow, that's a lot of unnecessary work... how 'bout this...

Front diff -

1. Take out the set screws on the drive lines... and pull drivelines from the diff..
2. Take off the front body mount bracket (one screw)
3. Flip the truck over, and remove the two screws that hold the servo arms to the servosaver...
4. There are 4 screws that hold the bulkhead to the chassis.. 2 up front... 2 under the shocks... take 'em out (obviously, you'll have to take the two screws holding the shocks and MOVE the shocks.
5. Slide the whole assembly off the chassis... and your diff is below (sometimes you might have to remove a rocker or two to get the diff out.. but that's just 2 screws)

Rear diff -
1. Loosen the grub screw on the pipe and free it from the hanger.
2. Remove the set screws from the drivelines and pull drivelines from the diff
3. Remove rear body post mount (3 screws... 2 also hold the rear of the bulkhead to the truck)
4. Remove long screws from shock mount (2)
5. Turn truck over and remove 2 screws from motor mount
6. Slide whole assembly off the chassis... and your diff is below..

The Revo has slides on the drivelines... so, they will just slide out... Give me 5-10 minutes, and I can be into the diff.

i run my revo in the skatepark next to my house. when i come out there all the guys stop just to watch the thing. i can get it in the halfpipe like a skater. over and back and over and back. its really cool looking. it was really hard to learn though and i broke a bunch of **** trying to learn it. the copeing and an a arm dont mix. i have had it about 10+ feet out of the pipe. its so cool. i have done some grinds too. like 50-50s on the rails. its amazing on how much in-air control you have with a revo.

yea, I agree with REVOFAMILY. 5-10 minutes and Im into the diff as well. basically the rear bulkhead is kinda of a pain to get out and back in. but thats about it. front is a cakewalk compared to the back. take the stuff out in as big of pieces as you can. thats fron end should come out as an assembly. then just take the 3mm screw out of the bulkhead tiebar and the front bulkhead should split and theres your diff.

As for jumping the moto-cross stuff, you might want to get some aluminum shock rod ends and for spare parts get some extra axle carriers a-arms and spare toe links. Im not saying these will break on you, but I trashed this stuff within the first 1/2 gallon of fuel. Spare rod ends are a good addition to your toolbox. Nothing like a 10 cent part ruining your day of fun.

If you line it up right... the diffs will just pull out. No need to split the bulkheads.
