Chipmunk: Best ARF Kit: choices to consider
Last email on the Munk: After researching I've found the following ARF Kits available:
1. Great Planes Super Chipmunk: 369.00
2. Aero Models Chipmunk: 199.00
3. World Models Chipmunk: 199.00 Didn't like this one because it didn't have the wheel fairings or pants.
4. AK Models Chipmunk: 189.00
That's about it as far as Chipmunk ARFs. Opinions on experience you've had with the manufactuer would be appreciated.
I'm munked out after all this research.
Don't care about cost, just good quality and ease of construction. Looks like the AK model is the easiest but don't know about the company.

I'd go with the great planes chipmunk, I've assembled a few greatplanes arfs and they were of good quality, FLY RC had a review of this ARF in their Nov 2005 issue, nothing but good things to say....high level of pre-fab, fiberglass fuse...etc

I have a world models chipmonk,it has wheel pants and fairings. I think the quality is good. It flys great with a 4 stroke 90. it is available with retracts or fixed, mine handles great on ground it has fixed gear.
next is the great planes version, cost quite a bit more but is more scale.
my advice is to build them all

I just realized WM offers two Chipmunks: fixed gear and retractable. Both are same price, and look to be identicle other than the gear. Anybody have experience with them?
I've seen some on ebay that have some kind of plastic/composite fuse, which I don't know if I care for. Those are rated for smaller engines as well.
Best looking Chipmunk I have ever seen is the Goldberg built from kit, WM being second. The GP canopy looks too large IMHO.

The Great Planes chipmunk is modeled after the two place planes with fixed landing gear. The Goldberg Chipmunk and the World Models copy have the single seat, retract model style canopy. The World Models Canopy is hanus until you cut the winsheild off and reattach it at the right angle. Most people don't care.
I have owned and flown all three. If you have the money and want a larger plane get the Great Planes. If you like to build get the Goldberg.

The WM Chippie is a really amazing flying plane for a plane that size. Of course its no where nearly as nice and scale as the GP one. The WM one is cheap and will KE will almost no coupling.
You cannot compare the GP one with the likes of the WM one. Of all the planes I have flown over the last 2 years, the WM Chippie is one of the best aerobatic planes for a 90 sized bird.

Here's a few pics of the TOC Chipmunk, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3806216/tm.htm Just got my gasser back from RcIgn and will eventually make a build thread, but will be a few weeks. Going to have to chop back the firewall to fit the gasser. The ARF quality seems real nice, nice covering, and no wrinkles!!! It's built very light too, great for glow, maybe not so good for gas. Throw the hardware away, especially the fake Robart hinge points. The real Robart's fit right in place. I've seen the Great Planes Chipmunk, it is much more "scale" than this one, but appears to be much "smaller" although the Wing Area is stated to be the same on both planes.

For me the GP Chipmunk is the best looking around , just that its way too expensive in Malaysia ... about USD475. The WM one is the best bet and it will be great fun with a YS110, I just ordered one from my LHS and can't wait to get it up with the YS110.

Most flyers want wheel pants for the looks. This is fine if you have a paved runway. If you fly off a rough grass field, most wheel pants cause problems and hang up. I had 2 planes with wheel pants. Took them off after 1 days flying. [8D]

Hi Guy's,
I have the WM Chippy with the retracts. She is well built, Flies very well and is extremely quick and agile. It is a little twitchy landing on a windy day and the Wheels are definately in the wrong place, will nose over on a grass strip every time. My landing gear is now bent quite a bit forward and is no longer retractable but it lands very nicely now with no nosing over at all.
Rod.

Steer clear of the VMAR offering.
They used the now long oop Stilleto wing on this model and like the Stilleto, it has a tendancy to tip stall without warning at low speeds.
Also the undercarriage blocks in the wings are not all that strong.
Their PC9/Texan II is a better flyer.
