Default GP Wagstaff Extra Smoke!

Finished the smoke installation. Nuts and bolts pictured here, balance on my website....take a look!

It is a TME smoke module, strapped to a tank/battery, with all necessary plumbing.

Oklahoma is too far to drive, you need to buy a video camera so you can post some shots of Patty smoking!

Default weight ?

Do you know the installed weight of your setup (w/o smoke fluid) ?
I'm thinking of getting one (gotta love them smoking planes) but am worried about the wing loading increase.

Thanks

Dry weight - all fuel lines, battery, tank, tie wraps, etc. As you see it, it adds just under 12oz. Then add the smoke, about 18 more ozs, and it's about a TWO pound increase in t/o weight. But, as the smoke burns off, it lightens a lot.

You have to understand the limitations, and plan accordingly (hence the overpowering with the ZDZ 50!)....

And - I would never have smoke on board for precision stuff, anyway...it's only for "show"....(what little there is in my feeble freestyle efforts)

Default good idea

thanks for the info

When I first read your website, I didn't get that your system was removable, hence my question about dry weight.
Its actually a very good idea; I must admit I hadn't thought of it ! I'll have to try it as I'd like to learn some 3D stuff and lighter is always better

Nice looking smoke setup i dont want to sound negative but my experience with the TME is that the closer the check valve is to the muffler the better it works. I noticed your location just wondering about your location??

That is a great idea. Definantly gonna steal it from you (don't worry, I WILL give you credit!!). Just one thing, where did you get those quick disonnect couplings at?

By chance any photos of it outputting smoke. I would be interested in seeing ground and air photos just to see what the TME puts out.

BAS - "caught me"....I use TWO check valves. One is about 2" from the muffler, and I use it to connect the Tygon to the silicone tubing, the second where you see it near the pump output. I've found this gives instantaneous ON for smoke...and definitely prevents the pump from un-priming itself

DEADSTICKER - "those fittings" are actually from an automatic blood pressure monitor. The "better" fittings (because they are lighter, cheaper, and disposable) are from McMaster Carr....http://www.mcmaster.com/

1 PK 51525K214 - Luer-Lock Tube $4.29 PK
Fitting Nylon Female Luer X Hose
Barb, 5/32" Tube ID

1 PK 51525K124 - Luer-Lock Tube $4.86 PK
Fitting Nylon Male Luer X Hose
Barb, 5/32" Tube ID

smartwork - I'll post photos...when I tested it on Saturday, I was pretty busy holding onto it, and tweaking the needle...but the NEIGHBORS noticed enough....I obscured the alleyway, and the smoke was QUITE dense. Believe me, this WORKS !!

I have one of the old systems, but I have not used it yet. Does anyone know what the difference is between it and the new ones?

Default TME smoke flicks...

Smartwork,

Aerobob and I have similar setups using the TME smoke system. We've got a few flicks of it in action (although on different birds) at:

Yellow Aircraft Extra 300L with TME smoke system
http://archive.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Cyberia..._extra120.html
and check the second page of that section... and

Yellow Aircraft CAP 232 with the TME smoke system
http://archive.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Cyberia...ml/rc_cap.html
and there are a few more pages of CAP films in that section as well.

The TME system makes it pretty easy.

For the guy with the old system if its the long square type pump it isnt worth using believe me get the newer type pump like in the above picture the old one it was a constant battle to keep it primed .

aerobob- Why did you chose to put the smoke tank where you have it, instead of up front next to the fuel tank? What size is you smoke tank?

The width of the whole setup prohibited installing it forward, plus, I didn't want to move the CG that much. It's a 24 oz tank, which likely will be too small in practice...

I HAVE A SIG 300 WITH A TME SMOKE SYSTEM IT IS SIMPLY AWESOME ON THE GROUND FULL THROTTLE IVE SHOT 80 FEET OF DENSE SMOKE DOWN THE RUNWAY. GREAT SYSTEM AND IF YOU USE NEOPRENE TUBING YOU DON'T NEED THAT CLAMP ON CLIP TO ADJUST THE OIL FLOW BECAUSE THE TUBING IS SMALLER. IT WORKS GREAT AND I AGREE YOU NEED THE CHECK VALVE CLOSE TO THE MUFFLER. I USE THE MDW SMOKE OIL WORKS THE BEST.

FuryFlyer2,

That smoke setup looks great!

I have the Patty, going to use a FPE 3.2.

One question: What does the Showtime pump setup weight?

I've been back and forth on which one to go with, as always, weight is a concern. My engine comes taped for a presure fitting, but this seems like a much cleaner setup, plus it could be removed quick if you wanted to eliminate the weight.

Thanks,
Eric
