Default DA-150 Ignition/Regulator Question

On my project running a DA-150, what is a good voltage regulator to run with a Fromeco 2400mah Lithium Ion Ign Battery. Is there a benefit between 4.8v or 5.4v? Also on the connectors do we use Power Poles, JR connectors or Deans? Sorry for what may be a repetitious question, but I want a safe reliable system.

One more question: What is the correct hook up sequence on a setup like this?

Thanks for any help!

I use JR heavy duty switches on all my large aircraft. I use Fromeco 4800 lithium's on receivers, and Fromeco 2400's on ignition. I also use Fromeco regulators. The correcet hook-up is battery to switch, switch to regulator, regulator to receiver.

The Duralite fail safe regs and Smart Fly standard regs are very good as well - make sure you use the HD switches..

Here are few schematics to show how to connect a dual system.. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=3906848

DA regulators like lower voltage - use 4.8, 5.0 or 5.1 - 6V power has been shown to reduce the lifespan of the module.

Don't use Power Poles on the ignition. That is what the DA comes with. Cut them off and replace with either a normal JR connector or a Deans (you can use a Deans mini). The Power Poles will eventually fail because of vibration. Has happened to a bunch of people I fly IMAC with.

Ken is absolutely right. They will fail.
Most likely while your hovering down low or are too far away from the field to make it back.

If you use the Fromeco adjustable regulators, 5.1 volts works out quite well.

Its best to solder everything in the engine compartment and then secure the wires to the firewall with PFM or Shoo Goo. DA needs to wake up... those power pole connectors are garbage.. nearly a 100% failure rate. I immediately cut them off and solder the lead to an ignition cut off .

Default RE: DA-150 Ignition/Regulator Question

Thanks for the replies! I contacted Smart Fly and bought one of their designated Ignition Regulators for Lith Ion.

The ignition battery will be powered by a pull pin. Can you run a y-harness off the battery to setup a charge jack. I am also running the power expander with a pull pin switch and it has two charge jack leads. Are you guys pulling the canopy to charge the batts or are you using some sort of external jack?

Thanks,

Perry

Instead of Y-harnesses (more connectors) solder the wires if you can.. otherwise, Y's are OK.. just more connectors to fail.

All my charge jacks are inside the canopy.. since all giants required the canopy to be removed for the wings there is no reason to have external jacks. I fly Li-Ion and check voltage when I get to the field and when I leave..
