OS 1.40RX Question
who is running an OS 1.40RX? what header and pipe are you running? what fuel? what length do you have the pipe set to? I am planning on running 15% cool power, and apc 17x12 prop, looking for good header and pipe. Anyone run the OS Header and Pipe, or is there better?

OS 1.40RX Question
I am running the OS 1.40RX with an OS header and an ES carbon fiber pipe. The pipe number is the 2C140M80. it's pricey, but you have to hold one in your hand to believe it. it's a work of art and only weighs 2-3 ounces.
Run the pipe with the header at full length. If you tune it, your transition will get fussy. But you will get better top end. personally I'd rather have a smooth transition, the top end is plenty.
I also run Omega 15%, and am toying with a twin plug head. I'm running an APC 16x13 prop on a wide body plane.
I have over 500 runs on this particular engine and have replaced the ring and bearings once at about 300 runs.
Use the thinly tapered needle as it makes the high speed needle less sensitive.

OS 1.40RX Question
been to that site, its good, got a recommendation since I have the Hatori Header and Hatori 140 pipe, to mate the 2 together in the coupler and leave 1/4", and lengthen it to 1/2" if it burbles, that sound right?

OS 1.40RX Question
How about an Asano Pipe? www.somenzini.com
I think that Somenzini used it with his OS, and CPLR with his YS L.

OS 1.40RX Question
I may try an ES or Asano on my next project, but I settled for a hatori header and a hatori pipe, I still haven't figured out why people run $250 exhaust setups on their four strokes, I wasn't aware you could tune a four stroke?

OS 1.40RX Question
Asano make some beautiful stuff, not only the carbon pipes but control horns, pipe brackets and the like. Very very light and strong.
No, 4strokes cannot strictly be tuned in RC aircraft, (though its open to debate in the Superbike World) more they shut the engine up with the minimum amount of power reduction. Getting it as light as possible is the key... hence the price. Regarding the 140's I am a little puzzled over the OS... as the main importer/ distributer of OS we get a lot of modifications sent in from Pattern users to this engine, from twin plug heads to replacing the carb altogether...

OS 1.40RX Question
I can tell you without a doubt a twin plug head vastly improves the idle and transition of the OS 1.40RX. I'm running one now and my stock heads are paperweights. With this head it runs like an EFI.

O.S.140 RX
I am running the ES really long pipe [#140XL80} set at 28 & 1/4 inches from the baffle to the exhaust face on the engine. Was advised by ES to start at 28.5 inches, and adjust accordingly.
At 28.25 inches,20% Cool Power [15 & 25 mixed],one extra head shim the engine works fine, loads of power and excellent idle and transition.
But top RPM is only 7680. Is anyone using this particular pipe on a 140 two stroke?
What length of pipe and what RPM? I hate cutting headers too short,so any advise appreciated.
Regards,,,,,,,,,Dave Smith

OS 1.40RX Question
I'm with a Hatori header and pipe... ok.
People are saying great things about these Greves pipes though...they seem very quiet.
I cut down one the nitro...went down to 10% It was banging with 16% and I'm to lazy to shim the head.
Even with 10% it lifts the Focus with ease.
I also unscrewed the pump regulator 1.5 turns...much better running and helped a great deal with the fuel economy... but boy it likes a drink. The YS's are much less thirsty...surprized me to.

OS 1.40RX Question
I've been running a mac header and the bolly 590 muffler (not a tuned pipe). I'm currently using a 15.5 X12 four blade apc with good sucess. This prop really makes for good down lines. I've also used a 16X13 also with good sucess. I originally had it on a tuned pipe (a mac) and found by the time I lengthened the pipe to get good smooth transition, It was acting more like a muffler anyways. Don't notice any difference in power output.
