Super Diet
I just put a plane on a super diet. I bought a 64" Miles reed Challenger because I wanted the engine that came with it. The covering looked like a prune. It had a 75 cc twin Spehar. I put the Spehar in a Hanger 9 Cap. I had a Taurus 4.2 that I put in the Challenger. The weight came out to 22 lbs. It flew like a brick. If you cut the throttle below half it started to sink. It was awful.
I decided to take the engine out and put into something else. I was going to sell the plane for 75$. Meanwhile, I traded an ARC Chip Hyde 34% Extra for a DA 50. The guy never said anything more about the Challenger so I decided to strip the covering
and put it on a diet and recover it.
These are the before pictures weighing in at 22 lbs

RE: Super Diet
The diet consisted of changing to a smaller engine, Moving the engine forward 1 inch, removing material where possible and cutting down the landing gear which was way to beefy. I also had to relocate the batteries. Final weight 17.2 lbs. The plane flies great now and is a floater. And to think I almost sold it for 75$.
