Default F15 by-pass or not

Hi Guys

I have been refurbing my Avonds F15 this winter and am putting all the gear back in.

This model has been flown a lot over the last five years with a JetCat 120 and full by-pass ducting. I am now putting in a titan (needed the 120 for something else) and the thought occurred to me why have a full by-pass.

On my eurofighter the static thrust is better without one and the F15 is not going to go much faster than 150mph due to the inherent drag of the airframe, so static thrust would be better than dynamic.

I thought I might cut the rear section to the front of the pipe part off the by-pass, this would then protect the turbine (it has a fod guard) from Fod from the wheel bays, but allow more air into the pipe.

What do you all think?
Thanks Ian

Hi flyrcjets

Did you fly with it on and then off. Did you notice any difference?

Thanks Ian

Ian,

you will always have better performance with a full bypass.

No bypass here. You will only notice that you have a Titan in your F-15 when you go vertical, with the bypass she will probably be 7 or 10 Mph faster and a bit quiet vs not having one.

Hi Jet flyer

It flew well on the 120, but with the titan I was a little concerned on airflow into the turbine and cooling.

Also it would appear model theory seems to indicate you get better static thrust without a by-pass. As you indicate the model is not going to go much faster, but high alpha passes and grass take offs would be better with more static thrust

Ian,

don't worry about the airflow. I flew my 15 with a P-120, P-70, P-80, TITAN, P-160 and now the ultimate AMT Pegasus HP Electric start. The only thing I had to change was the tailpipe ( bigger one ) with the Peggy.

Good luck.
