I've got a couple G38's that I'd like to brighten up. Has anyone tried any engine cleaners?[sm=idea.gif]

Go to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army store and get a crock pot (don't use the one your wife cooks in[] ) go to your local automotive store and get a gallon of antifreeze.
Put the antifreeze in the crockpot, remove carb. and any rubber gaskets from your engine put same in the pot set heat on medium and come back in about three hours the engine will look like new.

Would that be the type of antifreeze that is recommended for aluminum blocks?

Yes what I have is Zerox brand says for all metals including aluminum

There are a number of threads on this subject - rather than repeat the information try doing a search.

One of the really big points to note about this method is that it causes the carbon and gunk to come off in 'chunks', therefore you want to take the engine completely apart to make sure that all of the 'chunks' are washed out of the nooks and crannies - they will plug up your fuel lines.

Also - I just picked up a great little crock pot from Walmart for about $10.00.
Bargains are all over the place!

FYI I did a search of all forums and didn't find any of the number of threads that you mentioned. I always do a search before asking a stupid question so others don't have to be bothered answering questions that have already been addressed.

Thank you for posting those links. If I had known about the antifreeze method. I could have used the word "antifreeze" for the key word search like you did and could have found the links also.

I have never tried the anti-freeze in the crock pot. But I have had excellent results over the years was with something you buy in an auto parts store. It's called Aircraft Coating Remover or Paint Remover. Over the years different companies have labled it with different names. It's specifically for Aluminum and other metals. In the past I used the Demon Engine cleaner but that stuff was costly for a small can. But with the Coating Remover you get a 32 oz. can for about $11.00. It works great, no greying and all you do is brush or spray it on, wait about 15 minutes and then you just rinse it of with cold water. I got mine in Checker Auto under the name of Tal-Strip II Aircraft Coating Remover.
