RE: tug plans
Yeah, All the your answers got deleted in the reboot when the server went down.
I think someone suggested [link=http://www.loyalhannadockyard.com/]Taubman Plans[/link], [link=http://www.towboatjoe.com/]Towboat Joe's,[/link] and I suggested
that you check out [link=http://nwrcsm.freeyellow.com/index.html]North West R/C Ship Modelers [/link] and look at their SPRINGER tug plans.
http://nwrcsm.freeyellow.com/springer.PDF
The Springer is the clubs "IROC"/Nascar tug. All the hulls and running hardware are the same, but the superstucture profiles can be anything you want to build. The variety they have created is entertaining. I have seen superstructures built as outhouses, gardens, a house with a yard, log pushers, tractor tugs, Low cab, High cabs, stacked decks and high bridged designs all on this one hull.
See some images here.

RE: tug plans
Pity the replies went away. Here we go again.
Anyway, I had found four free plans for tugs.
The first is a good plan with details and hull sections. It is also hard double chine which means you can make it cheaply from cardboard or plastic sheet. I've watched the original in Bilbao, Spain and it is one of my favourite subjects for a small/medium tug.

RE: tug plans
the taubman plans site is awesome, all kinds of stuff, the only issue is that on some plans it doesnt say if it comes with hull plans and the plans for the ribbing and whatnot
Theres ALOT of boats to sift through though, if anyone knows a plan on this site for a large ocean going tug, similiar to the mister darby / happy hunter or this [link]http://www.taubmansonline.com/LHDPOWHATAN.htm[/link]
Id probally pick that plan up if it came with a hull plan

RE: tug plans
Pat Matthews may have plans for the Field Express, but it would still cost you copying costs, and postage. That typically comes out to around 20 dollars.

You might just e-mail Loyallhannah and inquire what the plans include.
Its difficult to be picky about free plans vs plans for a particular boat.

RE: tug plans
Welcome to the forum, I noticed that you are in the St. Louis metro area. On this side of the river there is a scale model boat club, St. Louis Admirals. We are a bunch of guys, 88 in all, who love building and running boats and having a good time. We have a web site http://www.stlouisadmirals.com We have meetings once a month along with sailing days, come by for a visit. We are glad to answer questions and help you along with your build. Heck someone may have a set of plans that may suite you.

for the person who wanted to build the Powhata go to this web site they have a 1/96 scale hull for it it is now owned by DonJon Marine, They also owns the real "Mr. Darby" it is now called the Atlantic Salvor. the photo you used was of the USS America being towed out to be sunk. if you look up the site you will see the Atlantic Salvor at the stern of the America

RE: tug plans
Yeah , not a bad idea at all, the 40 bucks was just for plans, I can definately swing more for a built hull and from what ive seen thats a pretty good price
PS heres the page for the powhatan's current employer, they also own one of the powhatan's sister ships, the narragansett.

It's great to hear the Taubman Plans site is awesome, but it would be helpful if each plan specified hull and ribbing details, which is crucial information for any marine architect looking for a large ocean-going tug design like the Mister Darby or Happy Hunter.
