In the $100 range are 3 good FM 3-channel computer radios. Hitec CRX, Airtronics MX3, and Futaba 3PM.
For a little more, add the JR XS3, which is synth, so you can choose any channel you want, to avoid radio interference with other people running RC's in there area. (In case you ever get into racing)
Go to a hobby shop and get your hands on the radios, see which one fits you best.

The servo that comes with any radio, will be too weak to steer the savage. They are fine for throttle and reverse. You'll have to upgrade to a better one. On a budget, the Hitec 645MG is good, Futaba S3305 is a little more. You're basically looking for something with 100+ oz-in of torque. More torque is better.

I run the Airtronics MX-3S and I am very happy with it. I recommend you get an additional high torque metal gear servo for the steering.
