NOT A CVRX cheerleader
I had bought my son a Tmaxx for christmas and he ran about 6 gal through it with the usual tuning gripes that most have. His birthday was this week so(after constantly reading about the cvrx) we bought the OS engine and installed it this weekend.
After blistering most of my fingers it finally fired up. The first 2 tanks went fairly smooth nothing exciting......but when we let it cool and tried to start it up for the 3rd tank NO JOY!......this thing has turned into a starting nightmare.....I've read everyting i could find on this engine....very few complain about it tuning / starting. The needles are always back to factory settings when we make an atempt and a fresh glow plug tested and installed.
I'm sorry to say how disappointed we are in this engine swap.
I did get it started this morning a couple times and now the truck seems to have some other issues....it sits there jerking like it's trying to catch first gear....but when the throttle is applied it never moves....i'm not sure if it's a clutch issue or a transmission one.
Sorry for the long rant......but "OUR" OS engine seems to be the exception to the rule.
IT'S A DUD....NO WAY AROUND IT
I'm not sure i wouldn't have had the same luck with a 3.3 swap.....but don't believe all the hype on the OS .18 CVRX.......they can be a pain like any other.

OS gives a 2 year warrenty so send it back and ask for a new one. They will most likely do it (sound desperate and really pissed off ). Where did you buy it from, Tower Hobbies?

do you maybe have a air leak? Fuel tank gasket may be shot.

sounds like you might have more issues than the motor. if it wants to move jerking like when idling that could be clutch issues or bearing failure and it could also make it really hard to start due to the load placed on the crank not allowing it to spool up like it should. double check the flywheel nut to make sure it didn't loosing up and back out on you if it did take it off put on some loctite and retighten.

RE: NOT A CVRX cheerleader
hey there, had one of those motors. it had been passed along from some guy off ebay to m buddy, then to me and now it's else where. but you know that was an awesome little motor. not quite like the TM but pretty dang close. anyhow they are a bit touchy to get tuned but once you do, everything should be cool. the only issue with that motor was it liked to eat glow plugs. but when i had it i never had to put one in it, my buddy got pissed about that cause he went thru em alot. i think he was running it too lean to be honest. i retuned it and fiddled with the HSN until i got it just right. as far as it jumping, most tmaxxs JUST do that, but once you get your tuning issues resolved and you can idle it down to where it should be idling, no more issues with it jumping, seriously. i tell you another thing about those tranny's, which will strip the gears quickly is trying to shift from fwd to reverse if it's idling to high. it snatches and kinda hard , there goes your dang plastic reverse gear. so first thing take the engine off, not too hard, clean it, seal it, dbl check everytihng, lines, clutch, header gasket, tank seal, fresh fuel, a touch of patience, and just have some fun. i just bought a warhead off ebay. it had like 1/2 to 3/4 gallon thru it. it is for my son's b-day on sat. got it out to check everyting, dang clutch shoes tore up, tranny had to be dissassemled and cleaned, and the tune is way off. i set the needles like it says and it's soooo rich it floods the engine when you pull the cord. got it all back together and don't know where to start. HELP. anyway good luck dude. hope this all helps ya out.

I've got that engine in my maxx. I have the same problem: twice the flywheel has worked its way loose. The shaft needs to be cut a little so the nut can tighten all the way down onto the flywheel. It was running great when the flywheel was tight! Still on the original glowplug after almost a gallon of fuel.
