would like some suggestions... a few questions
Okay... I hope this post doesn't end up sounding like the typical "What's the best RC to get?" without any qualifying information. What I would greatly appreciate is some honest opinions WITH SUPPORTING REASONS to help me make an intelligent choice on getting a new RC. Here is some quick background info: I raced for a couple of years competitively at my local track in the early 90's, so I have good skills and understanding of RC equipment and technology (albeit not so much NITRO specifically - it wasn't popular back then). So please answer the following questions assuming that I am an intermediate level hobbyist who would like to be competitive at a local level.
What are your top one or two suggested 2wd Electric Stadium Trucks?
What are your top one or two suggested 2wd Electric Buggies?
What are your top one or two suggested 1/8 scale NITRO buggies? And do you suggest 2wd or 4wd?
What are your top one or two suggested NITRO truggies or stadium trucks? And what's the difference between a truggy and a stadium truck anyway (yes, I read the sticky but as far as I can tell they're two names for the same thing)?
For competitive offroad racing (with the motocross type jumps and stuff) is there another category I should be considering that I missed above?
And finally, of all the above categories, which one can get me racing competitively at my local track with the least cost?
And finally finally... don't laugh... I'm kind of a "green" guy and environmental concerns are a factor for me to a degree. Are the little NITRO engines very harmful to the environment... or any more than battery packs for electric rc's? I'm assuming I do more damage to the air with my lawnmower in one afternoon than I would with a NITRO RC in a whole month... but I dunno really... any thoughts?
I appreciate your input.

RE: would like some suggestions... a few questions
2wd stadium truck - Losi XXX-t , Associated RC10T4
2wd buggy - Losi XXX , Associated RC10B4, these are excellent proven racers and have quality parts and ease of tuning .
!/8 scale nitro buggy These only come 4wd by the way . Ofna Hyper 8 , Sportwerks Turmoil
Nitro truggy - Ofna Jammin` CRT
Stadium Truck Losi XXX-nt , Associated RC10GT
Truggies are 4wd 1/8 scale with a center diff , stadium trucks are 2wd and 1/10 scale , Monster truck is 1/10 or 1/8 scale with a transmision .
As far as being competitive at your track it all depends what they are running and your driving skills .
All these I mentioned above I race with or race against and in my book are the best for the money .

RE: would like some suggestions... a few questions
My suggestion os only on these 3 areas.
2wd Electric Stadium Trucks
Team Associated RC10T4 & Team Losi XXX-T ro XXX-T MF2.
2wd Electric Buggies
Team Associated RC10B4 and Team Losi XXX BK2 or CR.
2wd Nitro Stadium Strucks
Team Associated RC10GT or Team Losi XXX-NT or AD2
Notice something? Well these are the two brands that has many championships on their belts. Unfortunately I dont have enough money (yet) to get into other bigger scale or other type and brands of RC.
Honestly, It will be difficult to answer all your question, unless someone here have race, driven or own all those kind of RC. Are you going to race on all of those categories.
If your going to race, the least cost is not what you want, even if you are the best driver in the world. You dont want to loose because your gear is inferior. Among the two brands I listed, I believe the Losi's are more expensive.
Finally, I think Nitro fuel is more environmentaly friendly than batteries. Otherwise the government would require Nitro RC to have some catalytic converter of some sort, gas models are more polluting, thats why in California they dont sell 2 stroke gas model engine even weed wackers, only 4 strokes are allowed (more cleaner). Batteries on the other hand, always has a warning or reminder to recycle old batteries and not to just throw them in the trash.
Hope my opinions helps.

I have raced, owned and driven every type of vehicle you have listed and I can tell you no one here can answer your questions for you.
There are too many variables involved in this decision and your best bet would be to go down to the local track and at LEAST tell us what type of racing you want to do. You just listed every class roar has to offer aside from TC.

RE: would like some suggestions... a few questions
Thanks guys for the input. It is really appreciated...
In response to the last post... I am wanting to race off-road on the "motocross style" track... I apologize I don't know the correct lingo... the track with a lot of turns and dirt jumps... whatever you call that. I used to race only on a dirt oval back in the day, so I wouldn't mind doing that also perhaps as a secondary event.
Regarding wanting to keep my cost low, let me clarify... I do want to be competitive and so I realize I'll be buying more than just a RTR kit of course. What I'm really asking is, is there one of the classes I listed above that is significantly cheaper when compared to the other categories if one wants to be competitive. BTW, I'm pretty sure my local track races all those categories but of course I'll be double checking that before I make a purchase ;-)
And just FYI, I am enclined to buy either a electric buggy or electric stadium truck simply because that's what I have experience with and also, from what I can tell, I believe that I can get a competitive setup in one of those categories with less cost that I could racing any NITRO classes... but then again, that's what I'm wanting to get some input on here.. so let me know if I'm wrong on that...
Thanks!

RE: would like some suggestions... a few questions
It`s going to cost around the same either way . Nitro - car , engine , electronics and fuel .
Electric - car ,radio , servo , ESC , and the big thing motors and batteries . If you want to run and compete with the big dogs you need the better motors and batteries which isn`t cheap . $60-150 a battery , $40-90 for a motor . You will spend a lot it just depends which way you want to spend it . Plus for both ways you need different tires ,foams , good charger ,and other small stuff . I`d say starting fresh you will spend an easy grand to get going no matter which way you go .

RE: would like some suggestions... a few questions
as far as the choice to go electric or nitro, i'd go to the track or tracks your going to be racing at and see what classes are on the schedule. for instance here in the dallas area there are 5 offroad course tracks, but only one of them has any type of electric class to race in. So you want to choose a class that you are going to be able to race in your area. And like someone else said once you have narrowed it down then ask for recomendations. there is certainly no lack of opinions on this site, but your question is too broad.
