Cant Figure out Ti, Great to fly off but switched on
Thanks in advance for have a look at this problem. I clearly am doing something wrong but honestly can not figure it out. DF Pro with switchable Thermal Intelegence, 1320 bat, perfectly balanced fore/aft- left/right
Flys perfect just like a heli with out TI, once switched on heli pitches back (got it inverted)
Battery conditions on both DF and TX are perfect (cycled and charged)
Range check is great (over 300' flights)
Setting Ti with DF pointing away from me, throttle stick down and right (push arm)
do I need to do anything else? if so I have tried the level second arm with throttle stick down left.
I have actually tried a few different combinations of arming but it always pitches back really fast.
thanks for the help

It doesn't sound like you're following the TI calibration procedure properly...Stick down and right is how you disable TI on a DF V without the TI switch. Down and left sets "thermal level" but you have to calibrate the TI first. To do that:
- Turn everything off
- Zero the trims, and turn on the transmitter
- Turn on the DF V
- Hold the DF away from your body with the green LED "eyes" pointing UP.
- Observe the LEDs. If none are lit, the conditions are no good for TI. If one is lit, it's Ok, but not optimal, and if two are lit, it's good.
- WHILE HOLDING THE DF IN THAT POSITION, hit the arm switch. This calibrates the TI. The point is to teach it the difference between ground (which the "rear" sensors are seeing at that point) and sky (which the "front" sensors are seeing at that point.)
- Place the DF V on level ground and move to a position at least 10 or 15 feet away.
- Hold throttle down and left...Observe blinking LEDs. "Thermal level" is now set.
- Don't forget: TI only works OUTDOORS.
- See how she flies!
Good luck!

First of all, are you trying to fly with Ti inside or outside? You cannot use Ti inside or affectively outside with predominately overcast skies and/or without a significant open space. Confined spaces outside with Ti can sometimes create extreme behavior. Try to calibrate in an open space on a clear day or night and see what happens.
When you say pointing away, is it vertical or horizontal?
This is not done simultaneously. You arm it and then set it down to calibrate the level.

Hindmost, I replied shortly after you did and before yours updated so we may have overlapped. However, left stick down and to the right calibrates level for Ti. Down and to the left calibrates for auto recovery which stays in the memory. If Ti level is left stick down and to the left, I have been doing it wrong for 9 months. [X(]

RE: Cant Figure out Ti, Great to fly off but switched on
Thanks for the inputs, I just went back and watched the video they sent, I have been doing it wrong.
To disarm Ti, throttle stick down left when arming is pushed
To Enable Ti
Turn helicopter on, check to see if TX and RX are talking (red led) also confirm both green LEDs in the front are lit
Hold heli away from face with top pointed out, arm by pushing button when heli front is pointed to sky (no reference in video about location of throttle at this stage, I think this is where I have been blowing it)
Set helicopter on level surface, about 15 feet away push throttle down and to the right, this sets the level and is confirmed with the green front leds flashing.
so I guess I will give it a try tomorrow after work
thanks for all the help

Er, whichever way makes the LEDs blink.
I've been "grounded" for several weeks [:@] (arm); apologies for remembering it backward!

Hindmost, I heard that! When I hadn't flown in a couple of weeks last year after my first fatal crash, I actually had to think about all these steps again until it became automatic again, which wasn't long.

copy that on the arming except the trims, what if my trims are off by a couple clicks here and there to keep the heli level withTi Off, do I need to reset the trims to zero when arming Ti to make it work the best? Will it remember this and help with Ti off hover?
thanks

RE: Cant Figure out Ti, Great to fly off but switched on
I believe the trims have to be reset for each mode. I have tried switching Ti ON/OFF in mid-flight just a couple of times and the flight characteristics are like night and day. Just try it a few inches off the ground and see what happens. I don't think it would be as bad switching TO Ti but to switch FROM Ti in mid flight...... [X(]

Clubjax, Hello all
you want to set your trims for a good hover with ti on because unless you are an accomplished heli pilot there is a good chance that when you throw the switch in mid flight it going to take an unexpected tilt or dive somewhere and at first you going to go #@!%#$@ no. you can see how far it it is by making the DA light to the ground and before you really go anywhere throw the ti switch off and see just how much the ti is off Arin from no ti. but if you get into trouble outside while flying with ti off, you are really going to be thankful for thermal intelligence. Just remember after holding the DF up and arming.DO NOT TOUCH your transmitter again until you have it back on a good allaround level spot, and at this time you use throttle all the way down and to the RIGHT. this helps the DF because you have now told it what level is. ofcourse as sky said start with the trims at center before you do anything. Mike at spectrolutions told me the df is capable of remembering the level you set and emergency (NO TRANSMITTER SIGNAL) ,no throttle and left while rearming will set your last command to the DF in case something goes wrong in non volitile memory. but anytime even while your are flying if you no throttle and go right you just told the DF this is what you want to be called as level, and if you are diving to the ground you can see how much of a disaster that would be. I carried my df to the launch pad i have and was carrying the radio at the same time and accidentally to the DF level was vertical under my arm. And Yes Crashola

Good luck and have a great time with this neat machine
