Default ESC motor Limit

If an ESC has a motor limit up to 15 turns (at 6 cells) what does that mean I can't go lower then a 15 turn motor or I can't go higher? also what does the 6 cell mean? is that the battery size?

ok motors are rated in number of turns or the number of times the wire is wrapped around the armature. The lower the turns the higher the RPM. A 15T ESC will be able to handle motors 15 turns and up. Not 14 or less. 6 cells means there are 6 individual batteries in the pack that are wired in series to create 7.2V.

yea I knew what the turns meant, so does that mean I CANNOT use a 7 cell battery or what does that mean, does the limit change if I use a 7 cell?

That depends upon if your ESC can handle it. If it can I dont reccomend running the lowest turn motor it can handle AND a 7 cell pack as you risk pushing it over it's limits. If I had an ESC that could manage 7 cells, and 15 turn motors, I would go with a 16 turn motor and a 7 cell pack to stay on the safe side, of course some ESC's work better, it really depends on which one you own.

I have the same ESC, at 7 cells the motor limit is 1 turn higher than the 6 cell limit, it will be 16T at 7cells, 15T at 6 cells. It will also depend on the quality of motor you are using. If its like the cheap ones like orions, fireballs etc. you can probably get away with 15T at 7 cells. That ESC is equiped with thermal protection, you could probably try going lower and hope that it will just cut-off if its runnin too hot and not ruin your ESc.

For Novak question, their website's customer support has been very helpful to me. You can email them direct for questions on any of their product.

Sorry to Generalize Orion as not so good ones, I only meant the cheap ones they sell for about $10.00 bucks, but they do make good quality ones too that are competitive.

Does anyone else have any more opinions on the kind of motor I should get? I really want something that has a good amount of tourqe but can atleast get up to 25 - 35. I will mess with the gearing so I just want a nice reliablie motor. I was thinking about a peak peformance raven 19t.
