Default Question About A 60" Cat Hull..........

Im thinking about buying one of Verns (forabuck) 60" cat hulls. My choice for power would be a Sikk 25.4. Is this enough motor for this hull? Im hoping to get it running in the 45-50 MPH range. Or would i be better off with one of his 50" cat hulls?

Is anyone here running one of his cat hulls? Got any other ideas for one of his cat hulls? Inline 260's maybe?
Probably a pair of stock inline 260's would not make the boat run as fast as just one Sikk. IM thinking because of the weight.

Thank you for any input.

The inline zenoah would smoke the Sikk in a large heavy boat.

Yes, I have built several of the 60" Expresscraft Thundercats (the boat that Vern copied) and am very familiar with the boat and set up. Let me know if you need any help with it. It should move fine with a single sikk, but the stock inline zen is as strong (or stronger) than a qd35.

XXX

Thanks for that info. Maybe i will just build the boat with stock inline Zens. Is a inline engine combo fairly easy to set up and maintain? Can you recommend a inline connector?

Im thinking that the 60" hull has plenty of room for those. Do you need special engine mounts or will standard mounts work?

i have a 60 forabuck hull with a single sikk 25.4 probaly around the 35 mph mark not at all a screemer but still fun to drive. if you are looking for speed i would buy one of xxxboatworks twin kits. they look awesome and set up is a breeze. he sells all you need for speed!!! lol

Yes i just found out about the XXX twin kits. They look nice. Gonna look into those. I may even ask around for a hull that my be better suited for the twin kit. Just thinging out loud.

Bullitt01,
The inline will probably fit in the Thundercat (or vern'c copy), but the Expresscraft MTI would probably be a better choice. Since the inline motor is pretty long, it is better suited only for larger cats (or most any V). I know the Vern knock-offs are cheaper, but buying the original does not increase the totol cost of the build by more than 10%. As littlebuick said, 35-40 is about what you'll get with the sikk. Expect 50's with a qd35 or inline zen.

I can confirm the 35 with the SIKK. Just took my MTI out this weekend. Alot of fun, but if your looking for a 50 mph boat it's gonna need more horses

I have a Vern 60inch cat as a play boat, I used the Sikk 25.4 lower, and modded 27 cyl. I have a clutch in it, Have a steel pipe and getting 43 mph on GPS. Its a fun boat ( I would suggest reglueing the top and bottom seams) Mine split on a flip.

I havent been overly impressed with the SIKK.
I am going to dump in a modded 260 with a M&D pipe and see how that compairs to the Sikk engine.
The Sikk seems to run HOTTER than all my other Zens. All the same gas/oil mix.
The Sikk always Seems to need a carb adjustment, and I get more build up on the piston ( blacken) than I do any of my zens.

Now some have said run the sikk with a shorter pipe, I found with this cat, run it about 12.5, Its got the torque to get it up good, But top end seems to suffer, Only getting about 15200 rpms. The "best" prop so far has been a bone stock 7016/2, It was sharpened and bal, But no mods to the prop at all.

I run a Vern Bacardi cat 54ins started witha Bonzi mod2 (5.2hp) max speed was about 45 mph . I put a bonzi inline on a ABC 3114 prop must be 60mph + ( broke the engine in for repair) seems to be agood combination. You can see the model on U-Tube Waynes Channel under forbuck cat.
