RE: 3W 157 and Composite 260
The 157s are the cream of the crop for 150cc engines (the new zdz super 160 may be up there as well, will run mine shortly). I had the twin spark non CS 157 with full length KS 1090 pipes and that motor cranks like nothing else. My friend now has the plane and still going awesome. My buds back in Shreveport have 4-5 157s, all of them CS I believe except the one my friend got from me. All run like a top. They are great engines. I would have got another one for my current project, but was tempted to try something else, so got the zdz super 160.

I am enclosing a few photos for u to see the baffles and some of the cutouts in the SuperXtra.
flyinrazrback
Currently have the Champion 160B2 of the ZDZ 160. It's back at RC Showcase for some strange reason she keeps loosing a Cylinder after 1.5 min in-flight. On Landing Temps are 200 and 130. Strange especially since it's done this on 2 different ignitions modules. I am hoping Mike Dooley can fix her she is a nice motor.
The 3W 157 will replace her if Mike can't get her running right.

Flyinrazorback- Have you had any experience with the "stock" 157. I know this is a frequently visited subject but what is your latest opinion regarding CS, TOC or stock. I also have a comp 260 and have to watch what I spend. Also considering a 150.

RE: 3W 157 and Composite 260
im running a new comp arf 260 with a 3w 157 cs, turning a 32 x 14 3w carbon prop. its amazing how much power and downline breaking it has. this plane for me, was set up for IMAC only. elevator at max gets 28 degrees, rudder and aliron gets about 40 to 45. this is the best tracking plane, knife edge are hardly coupled, snaps fast and stops on a dime.
also running cans in the plane, it weighs about 38 1/2 lbs.
any questions call me 318-470-1029

JLS, sent you a PM. I think the LLV cans are just like the LL cans, but a tad different dimensions to fit the 3w Votec, so they will be perfect for the 157 or 150.

RE: 3W 157 and Composite 260
3W 157 CSTS on tuned PEFA cans here.
Turns a 32/10 Biela nice, but I don't trust the engine yet, still relatively new. I have a 33/10 Fuchs and a 30/12 3 blade Biela to try on it when it gets more time on it. Too bad my cowling system is totally impractical...
It has plenty of vertical, but acceleration out of a (brief) hover is slow. Plane weighs approximately 41 pounds, that's with a smoke pump and tank in (empty), two receivers, 8 servos (plus throttle).
In order to balance with this setup, it is advisable to put 4 servos in the tail or fall back on what I did, and use 2 servos with some lead weight back there. I was forced into that as the servo mounting ribs are way off of where they need to be in order to put the outer elevator serovs in (without a MASSIVE hole for the arms to come out) on my plane.
Plane flies quite nice though. I have yet to get used to such a big plane snapping so quickly. Also, the more tail heavy it is, the more sensitive the rudder coupling becomes. Something I've noticed and concurred with.

is it your left cylinder heating? Have you used amsoil? It cooled my super 80 about 20 degrees. If it is your left cylinder, your baffling needs to be closer. You also may be getting pressurizaiton in the cowl. Open the bottom more and put a spoiler just in front of the lower opening to create turbulence under the nose, and it wil in turn create a low pressure area and suck out the heat. One side is probably allowing the hot air to get trapped. It is so important on big motors as you probably know. Try the spoiler first. If you talk to Mike Dooley, he will tell you the exact thing I would venture to say. He told me the same thing on my setup.

Oh yeah, I have Pefa LLV cans, will they work well with a 157? As far as that goes, do you think they work well with a 150?

Those cans should work fine........I talked with Bobby and he said that the 150 cans are the same for tehe 157. I've got the Pefa cans on my 157CS on my 42% Extra 300. The thing runs great

RE: 3W 157 and Composite 260
I've ordered a comp arf 260, with the greave pipes. Will the manifolds fit the 3w? Does anyone know how the 3w will perform on this set up? How does the weight compare to the DA, is it a bit heavier?

RE: 3W 157 and Composite 260
Birdman, I think the greves headers are for the DA 150, you will need a set for 3W. I too am interested in hearing about the greves on a 3w 157. My 157 ran great on KS tuned pipes. The last weight comparison I saw showed the 3w 157 was 1oz lighter than the DA 150, as 3W lists their weights including igntion, DA does not.
