Default Repairing hangar rash on canopy

Hi!

I am wondering how to treat a canopy that has a dimm spot on it? I think the spot has come from canopy rubbing against the shipping boxs´ walls.

I am planning on tinting the canopy and am pretty sure that when I tint the inside of the canopy the dimm spot on the outer
surface will be clearly wisible.

Has anyone had similar problems?

(I know that dimmed canopies are a hard fix, but maybe a clear coat of somekind would work, with a paint that doesn´t melt the canopy)

Have you tried a polishing buff fitted to a modeller's electric drill? Worth a try?

Try some toothpaste, on a soft damp cloth and just rub out the fine scratches until it shines again. Rub it until it's dry. Apply again if neccesary.
This method also works on plastic sunglass lenses that are scratched.... It works !!

Take a look at these kit's https://www.micro-surface.com/defaul...page_id=175#17

I've used the acrylic kit to polish out scratches... that and the polish makes it look like NEW.

Anyone heard of or used "Weenol"? My father-in-law is an excellent plastic modeler and swears by the stuff for buffing out canopies, but I've never seen or hear of it.

Tom... could be this stuff http://www.wenol.com/ Never used it myself and it seems to only be for metal.

You can get auto wenol at most speed shops and stores that carry better grades of aluminum wheels. It is a high grade low cut aluminum polish (very much like semi-chrome) or some of the metal polishes that are impregnated into a wadding material. You might also try your local Harley shop. Another thing that will work is to use Mother's polish ( about the same results) Do not use a speed wheel to apply and buff the canopy. You will go through it when using one of these polishing compounds. Toothpaste is still one of the best for good results. You could purchase a plastic polish that Harley Davidson shops sell for cleaning the scratches on windshields. There are any number of products that will return the results that you are looking for. The secret is to go slowly, and not rush things. Using water on the cloth that you are posishing with will reduce the likelyhood that you will burn through the canopy.

I'll probably grab some of this stuff just to play with. Seems like it could have many modeling and household uses.

A polishing kit (follow the directions) and plenty of elbow grease will make the canopy better than when it was new. You can get polishing kits from micro-mark.
