I am getting a new fc26 and I am trying to figure out which of these two to get. does any of you have any experience with either engine? there is less than a $100 difference!

I am currently putting together a FC2.6 also.
I have posted alot of pics on the plane in this forum.
I have a DA100 for power.
The plane is designed around this motor and still comes out at a bit over 24 lbs.
The new 3W 100 is a powerhouse and is now comprable to the DA in power and weight.
The only thing you can do in this plane to change the CG drasticly is to move all the batteries up front.
I will be posting in the next few days with pics of the completed plane and setup.
Either way you should have an awesome flying plane!!
Good Luck
Dave

I don't know any one personally that owns a ZDZ engine. I myself do own a 3W 100 B2 TOC version. I had this motor in a 32 lb Extra 300. It would hover that plane at 1/2 throttle using a 28/10 prop. It also would pull that plane straight up out of a hover with authority. When I bought the motor I to was told it was compairable to the early 3W120's. That could very well be true.

The latest version of the lightweight 3W-100 has had a displacement increase to 106cc and weighs 5.8 lbs. The ZDZ-100 will be nearly a pound less weight, don't know if you will have to add the nose weight back on the FC. The ZDZ is fairly new in the US, so there are no reports yet on the power of the motor. The 3W-100 engines have always been very strong motors. I would expect the 3W-106 to be even stronger.

I have own/ed several 3W100's... Including the new lighter version. I also own a few DA-100's and have several friends with them as well. MY 3W's typically have turned 200-300 rpm more than the DA's from day one... Same prop and exhaust systems for comparisons. 3W did switch to the new lightweight cases early last year. My examples of these new lightweights weigh exactly the same as my DA's at 5lbs-8ozs.
Either of these engines are very good choices. The 3W will present a installation quandary, relative the overall length of the engine. There is a 3/4" or maybe it's 1" difference in length backplate to prop hub. Before deciding on a ZDZ be sure and compare the overall length.

very good comparison mglavin,I agree with your findings.I think though what 3W and DA have over the ZDZ motors is Low end! The ZDZ line even though are lighter use a rotary intake system where the 3W and DA use the same basic reed valve intake system,I believe this is where the overall power ultimately comes from, producing more torque enabling them to turn larger props at constant RPM ratings without dropping off when loaded.
3W's I believe are still easier to mount than the ZDZ line as I broke in my buddies ZDZ 50 for him and the motor was a bear to mount because of the clearance problem between the carb and backplate of motor. The area is virtually non existant in the rotary type intake system they use.
Make sure to consider ease of mounting, ease of tuning( needles are hard to get to on ZDZ ) and ease of servicing on airframe.
