Default Prepping a Carbon Fiber Chassis

I am doing my first CF chassis build up and I remember people in the past that talked about prepping their chassis. I think they did some sanding on the edges and gluing on the edges. Can someone talk about this, why and how you would do it.
thanks,

I've never done it, but i hear you lightly sand the edges of the CF, and then run a bead of superglue around the edge to prevent it from splitting. I've got a CF radio plate and CF shock towers for my onroad nitro in the post, so i'll probably go that route.

Remember that carbon fibre is a laminated material. You'll want to glue the edges to prevent it from delaminating.

Hi,

Carbon fibre dust is toxic material, it is suggested that you use water type sand paper (don't know the correct name), no.600 - no.800 is fine. Make sure dust don't fly around. You should also wear gloves and goggles. Sand out the sharp edges and wash it with soap or detergent. Wait for it to dry and use cotton tip to apply CA glue on all edges.

Regards

Joaquim

I CA glue all my CF edges! I use a Q-tip as and applicator and works great.

Not from what I have found matter of fact the cotton part takes longer to dry not faster. I dip the whole end in the bottle when I seal the edges of CF parts.

Hi,

It will work better with cotton tips that has wooden sticks. Plastic sticks could be burnt by CA and generate a smoke but no big problems.

After you prep it and then it happens to splinter later due to a crash or whatever, just sand the edges and re-apply the CA glue. Keep your CF chassis healthy!
