Flywheel nut torque?
Hello all,
Got a slipping flywheel.... tightened the nut the crimp it to the engine via the cone shaped space, but the darned thing slips... I dont want to torque it down super tight and damage the rear bearing... And sujections on how much to tighten it? I do have a torque wrench that measures in Inch pounds... Engine is a OS .18 with a stock revo 2.5 flywheel..

well, i can't give any torque specs, but i tightened mine very snug. just short of breaking, i suppose. atleast that's what it felt like if you consider what it would take to snap a 1/4 inch bolt. not that the crank has much comparison to a bolt.

never heard of torqueing an rc . I think it would be alright to just tighten it down as tight as you can go, but add some blue threadlock. Also, make sure you have no leak in the bearing, sounds like oil or fuel is getting out and going to the flywheel (is that possible?)

No leaks.... is an OS engine, not a traxxas.....lol....
Seriously, so just tighten the crap outta it but dont break it... heh.... great advice...
I dont use locktight on something that might have to come apart later, but thanks for the tip...

Snug is the key word. I allways grab onto the starter shaft from the other side with a fice grip and i use special plyers. Take some eletricle tape and rap it around your faverite plyers so you don't scratch the shaft.

89gram. I was just about to say that. Try a shim or two and that should space the flywheel out far enough to be able to tighten up the clutch shaft and you should be good. If that does not help then you may need a new flywheel collet or another shim.

RE: Flywheel nut torque?
Hey thanks all, tightened it down last night befor bed. Just got out and ran it for a little bit... werks great now.
To be honest I think I just hand tightened it the first time. Or at least it seemed to just be hand tight.
BTW, there is no way in hell Im putting vice grips on my crank shaft, just seems like a bad idea. I used a small rubber strap wrench around the e-z start nut. Worked great...
Also I got a thin copper lock washer between the nut and flywheel. Didn't move the nut too far up and the bell and bearings seem to fit better then they did befor with no front and back play.
But again thanks for the replys, seems now Im gonna have to loosen the slipper if I ever want to keep the front end on the ground.
